During your three-day stay in the island capital, Funchal, enjoy a half-day city tour—including a ride in a wicker toboggan, once a common mode of local transportation. Immerse yourself in local life as you visit the covered market at the edge of the Old Town and the oldest Madeira wine cellar, where you’ll sample the sweet wine named for the island. DAY 1 : Depart Home / Overnight Flight / Maderia, Portugal
Depart your home city for an overnight flight to Madeira, Portugal, via Lisbon.
DAY 2 : Madeira
Upon arrival in Maderia, you’ll be met by a Vantage Representative and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, you can take an orientation walk with your Program Manager. Tonight enjoy a Welcome Briefing, and Dinner at the hotel.
DAY 3 : Madeira
Set out this morning for a half-day city tour including the Marketplace and Old Town. You'll enjoy magnificent city views of Funchal as you take a traditional toboggan or “sledge basket” ride from the town of Monte. Your afternoon is free. Before returning to your hotel, you'll stop at one of Madeira's oldest wine cellars to sample a local vintage. This evening is at your leisure.
DAY 4 : Madeira
Spend the day at leisure or choose an optional full-day tour through the interior of this magnificent island.
DAY 5 : Madeira / Lisbon
After breakfast, depart for Lisbon airport and your flight to join Day 2 of the base program.
Devotees of modern art and architecture will be thrilled by this fantastic extension to Barcelona, heart of Catalan culture. You'll get to know Barcelona on a city tour, including views of the Arc de Triomf, built for the 1888 Universal Expo, and the National Art Museum of Catalonia, housed in the elegant Palau Nacional, originally built for the 1929 World’s Fair. Your tour’s highlight will be entrance to the magnificent Sagrada Familia Church, the masterpiece of architect Antoni Gaudí, whose fantastic neo-Gothic style gives given Barcelona its unique style. The remainder of your time here is at leisure to explore Barcelona’s mix of friendly, strollable streets and modern urban planning.
DAY 14 : Lisbon, Portugal / Barcelona, Spain
After breakfast, depart on your flight bound for Barcelona. In the afternoon you’re free to explore this Mediterranean coastal city on your own.
DAY 15 : Barcelona
This morning enjoy a guided city tour with entrance to Antoni Gaudí's splendid Sagrada Familia Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, widely recognized by its soaring Passion and Nativity Towers. Then, make your own discoveries with free time on your own in Barcelona.
DAY 16 : Barcelona
The day is yours to spend at leisure, or you may choose to join an optional excursion to Montserrat. This evening, enjoy a Farewell Dinner.
DAY 17 : Barcelona / Return Home
This morning, transfer to the airport for your return flight to the U.S.
