DAYS 1-2:

Depart Home / Overnight Flight

Your trip begins with your flight to historic Bergen. Settle in and then enjoy an included Welcome Dinner at the hotel.

DAY 3 :

Bergen / Embark Ship / Set Sail

This morning's Bergen tour, includes Bryggen Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Troldhaugen, summer home of Edvard Grieg, Norway’s beloved composer. Then, board the ship, as we cast off in search of the Northern Lights!

DAY 4 :

Norwegian Coastal Voyage - Northbound

Hurtigruten ships are a vital link for the remote ports along Norway’s rugged coast. Enjoy the view as you sail into the fjordlands, picking up and dropping off passengers and goods along the way. Today’s stops include Molde and the art nouveau town of Alesund.

DAY 5 :

Trondheim / Rorvik

Today you'll join a motorcoach tour of Trondheim, including an outside view of Nidaros Cathedral. Your second port of call is Rorvik, where you'll enjoy a walking tour of this bustling island fishing port.

DAY 6 :

Ornes / Bodo / Stamsund / Svolvaer

Today we'll cross the Arctic Circle into the Land of the Midnight Sun and the Northern Lights. Look for the looming Borvass Mountains and join the stroll in Bodo, a shipbuilding town. Then, cross Vestfjord toward the cliffs of the Lofoten Islands.

Learning Discoveries: Arctic Circle ceremony; “Magic Light” presentation on the Northern Lights; Fresh fish cakes on deck and the story of the 1890 Battle of Trollfjord

DAY 7 :

Harstad / Finnsnes / Tromso / Skjervoy

Today, we’re among the fjords, so get a good spot for viewing as we cruise to Tromso, the “capital” of Arctic Norway. You’ll also visit the Tromso Museum for the “Embrace the Aurora” exhibit — including a mini-lecture, short film, a guide within the exhibition, and a Northern Lights book — followed by a visit to the Arctic Cathedral. Walking tours: Finnsnes and Tromso Learning Discoveries: “Tromso, the Gateway to the Arctic” presentation; Captain’s talk on the way of life along Norway’s coast; coffee and liquors on deck while searching for the Northern Lights

Please note that since the Arctic Cathedral is a working parish, it may close on short notice due to funerals, weddings, and other religious events. If it is closed, you will visit the Tromso Cathedral instead. If the Tromso Museum is closed, the alternate visit will be the Polar Museum.

DAY 8 :

Hammerfest / Havoysund / Honningsvag / Kjollefjord / Mehamn / Berlevag

Today’s sailing takes us past the North Cape, the northernmost point in continental Europe. You’ll visit Honningsvag, the world’s northernmost town.

Learning Discoveries: Presentation on Sami history; King crab catching demonstration with local fishermen

DAY 9 :

Norwegian Coastal Voyage - Southbound

Located on the Russian border, Kirkenes, our turnaround point, was the site of tense standoffs during the Cold War. While here, you’ll travel by motorcoach to visit the SnowHotel, including entrance and a nonalcoholic welcome drink served in an ice glass. After returning to the ship, you’ll head south to make daylight calls at ports that were passed during the night on the northbound trip. Walking Tours: Kirkenes and Vardo  Learning Discoveries: Presentation on Vardo; For those who dare — ice dipping in the Arctic Ocean (weather permitting)

Please note that the visit to the SnowHotel is only available from December 20, 2012 until April 20, 2013. If the SnowHotel is closed, the alternate excursion will be a Russian Border Tour.

DAY 10 :

Honningsvag / Havoysund / Hammerfest / Oksfjord / Skjervoy / Tromso

Today you'll visit Hammerfest, the first town in Europe with electric streetlights. You’ll visit the village of Skjervoy.

Learning Discoveries: Energy themes, including Energy coffee and the energy history of Melkoya Island; Learn to tie seaman’s knots

DAY 11 :

Harstad / Risoyhamn / Sortland / Stokmarknes / Svolvaer / Stamsund

Today you’ll have an opportunity to visit small island fishing ports, as you pass through Raftsund Strait into scenic Trollfjord.

Learning Discovery: Learn about the fishing trade as local fishermen come aboard with their daily catch

DAY 12 :

Ornes / Nesna / Sandnessjoen / Bronnoysund / Rorvik

Crossing the Arctic Circle southward, you’ll call at Sandnessjoen, an island port.

DAY 13 :

Trondheim / Kristiansund / Molde

Along with walking tours of Trondheim and Kristiansund, today you'll also enjoy scenic cruising past the islands of Grip and Hitra.

DAY 14 :

Bergen / Disembark Ship

“The World’s Most Beautiful Voyage” concludes. After disembarking, enjoy a final night in delightful Bergen.

Bergen / Return Home

Transfer to the airport for your return flight home, or begin optional Copenhagen extension.
