Depart Home / Bucharest, Romania
On arrival in Bucharest, you’ll be taken to your hotel. Or begin early with our optional Transylvania pre-extension.

Explore the boulevards of Bucharest on a city tour. The following day,
enjoy a visit to the Black Sea resort of Constanta. Later, enjoy the
Captain’s Welcome Party and Dinner.

Bulgaria / Cruising the Danube
Cultural Connection: Set off on a full-day tour to dramatic, cliff-side
Veliko Turnôvo and 16th-century Arbanassi, where you’ll chat with
students over lunch. Cultural Connections: Learn more about the region with a talk on the
European Union, a Bulgarian children’s dance performance, and an icon
painting demonstration. On a tour of the ancient port of Ruse, visit
the Sweta Church.
On Day 7’s full day of sailing, admire the
spectacular river-carved cliffs of the famed Iron Gates of the Danube.

Republic of Serbia
Cultural Connection: Arriving in dynamic Belgrade, attend a lecture on
modern Serbia. Then, set off on an included tour featuring storied
Kalemegdan Fortress.

Croatia
Cultural Connection: Following a lecture on “Croatia: Past and
Present,” begin a full-day tour exploring Vukovar and the
forward-thinking university city of Osijek. You’ll also learn about
Croatia’s hard-won independence at a special lecture and lunch at the
home of a local family.

Hungary
On a tour of Pecs, see the Basilica of St. Peter and the Roman
Necropolis, both recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cultural
Connection: Venture into the vast plains of Hungary’s Puszta to visit a
horse ranch. In the evening, you’ll sail into the heart of Budapest.
Here, you’ll enjoy a lecture on Hungary, a city tour, a visit to the
artists’ colony at Szentendre, and time at leisure.

Austria
Waltz around Vienna’s opulent Ringstrasse on a city tour. The next day,
choose a “Musical Vienna” tour or a tour of Schönbrunn Palace.
Cultural Connection: Later, attend an exclusive concert at Vienna’s
Kursalon Music Hall. Then, spend a delightful day admiring the Danube’s
vineyard-carpeted Wachau Valley as your cruise continues.

Germany
In Passau, your guided walking tour ends at St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Cultural Connection: Here, you’ll hear a concert on Europe’s largest pipe organ. On Day 19, touch the Roman roots of Regensburg on a walking tour. After the next day’s tour of Nuremberg, visit your choice of the Dürer House or the Toy Museum. Next you’ll embrace the magic of Bamberg (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). In Würzburg join an excursion to the storybook town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber or tour the grand Würzburg Residenz, with a winetasting in the palace’s wine cellar.
On Day 23, enjoy a glass-blowing demonstration, then explore Wertheim’s cobbled streets on a walking tour. The following day, you’re off to Heidelberg for a full day tour. The next day, choose from two tours in the town of Rüdesheim — Siegfried’s Musikkabinett or Niederwald Monument. After a cruise through the dramatic Rhine Gorge, gather for the Captain’s Farewell Party and Dinner. Then in Cologne, stroll to the magnificent gothic cathedral.
