You’re about to find out why National Geographic Adventure declared Croatia “paradise on earth!” On arrival in Zagreb, you’ll be met at the airport for transfer to your hotel. This evening, join your Vantage Program Manager for a trip briefing, followed by a Welcome Dinner at the hotel. Or begin with our 3-night optional extension in Slovenia.

Zagreb
During your visit to Croatia’s pleasant capital, enjoy a panoramic city tour that takes in the National Theater, the Stone Gate, and the city’s Art Nouveau architecture. Cultural Connection: You’ll also visit Petra Knitters to watch a local designer produce traditional Croatian knitwear. Then, enjoy free time to stroll and stop at a café for refreshment.

Zagreb / Budva, Republic of Montenegro
This morning, you’ll fly to Dubrovnik. Upon arrival, you’ll transfer by motorcoach to Budva in the Republic of Montenegro. This small republic, once part of Yugoslavia, has some of the most dramatic scenery in southern Europe. You’ll stay in a modern resort hotel right on the beach just outside of Budva, a seaside resort town surrounding an ancient walled city center. Enjoy an included dinner at your hotel this evening.

Budva
Today you’ll visit several of Montenegro’s treasures, beginning with Kotor, a medieval walled city that has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your panoramic tour includes the Cathedral of St. Tripun and the Orthodox Church of St. Nicola. From Kotor, you’ll take a scenic drive over the Montenegro Mountains, stopping to sample delicious local cheese, ham, brandy, and wine along the way. Our destination is Cetinje, the old royal capital of Montenegro, where you’ll visit the Royal Court. Lunch is included in a local restaurant in Cetinje. The rest of the afternoon and evening are at leisure.

Budva
Montenegro’s dramatic coastline is revealed today as you motorcoach along the shoreline to Sveti Stefan, where a medieval village on a peninsula has been transformed into an upscale resort. Returning to Budva, enjoy a walking tour of the walled medieval old town, followed by time to explore on your own. Enjoy the evening at leisure.

Budva / Dubrovnik, Croatia
The morning’s at leisure, then transfer by motorcoach to Dubrovnik, the second UNESCO World Heritage Site you’ll visit. Check in to your guaranteed sea-view room, and enjoy free time. Dine at the hotel tonight.

You’ll be enchanted by Dubrovnik’s towered, crenelated city wall as you explore the cobbled gem that lies inside. Visit ancient churches and peek up streets lined by vibrantly colored houses and flowers during your afternoon at leisure and stop at one of the many cafés for lunch on your own. Cultural Connection: Your evening is capped off by a home-hosted dinner with a local family — a true highlight of your trip!

Enjoy Dubrovnik on your own today. Or, join a Vantage optional morning tour along the Dubrovnik Riviera to the seaside resort of Cavtat. Cultural Connection: In the early evening, attend a Vantage-exclusive classical music concert at the 16th-century St. Saviour’s Church.

Dubrovnik / Sibenek
As we head north from Dubrovnik this morning, we’ll travel briefly through Bosnia and Herzegovina, stopping in Neum, the country’s only seaside town. Next, you’ll visit the ancient coastal city of Split, where you’ll explore the palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then continue to your hotel in Sibenik where you’ll dine this evening.

Sibenik
Visit Krka National Park, where waterfalls tumble through dramatic gorges, and stop at a nearby village where traditional crafts are made. Cultural Connection: You’ll then continue to Jurlinovi Dvori, an unspoiled Dalmatian village where you’ll visit a museum of traditional home life in Dalmatia. Enjoy an included lunch, followed by a panoramic visit to the red-roofed seaside town of Primosten. Back in Sibenik, you’ll go on a walking tour, including a panoramic view of the Cathedral of St. James, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy dinner at the hotel this evening.

Opatija
Depart for an included tour of the Istrian region, named for the Istrian Peninsula. We’ll visit the coastal town of Pula, where the highlight of your sightseeing tour is Pula’s well-preserved Roman amphitheater, once the site of gladiator fights. Next, stop for lunch and sightseeing in Rovinj, a gorgeous old town with Venetian-style houses, that juts into the sea on a small peninsula. Later in the afternoon, enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Opatija. This elegant destination lies at the center of the Adriatic Riviera, and boasts the longest tradition of tourism in Croatia. In the 19th century, European nobility and international notables built striking villas in which to spend their winters. Cultural Connection: Later, enjoy a lecture on “Everyday Life in Croatia” at the hotel.

Your morning is at leisure or you may wish to join an optional “Riviera Boat Trip” that travels along the beautiful Adriatic coast. Midmorning, you’ll depart by motorcoach for Zagreb, returning to the hotel where you began your trip. Enjoy free time in Zagreb on your last full day in Croatia.
