Cruise the Drake Passage and Antarctica
Your Antarctica exploration begins with a cruise across the legendary Drake Passage. As you cruise, enjoy a series of lectures by the onboard team of expedition leaders and naturalists. Our destinations are Half Moon Bay and the Antarctica Peninsula. Aboard our highly maneuverable ship we’ll explore among the many islands, bays, and channels. Get your camera ready for the penguins, seabirds, whales, and other creatures we’re sure to encounter! Weather permitting, you’ll board motorized PolarCirkel boats to go ashore at selected sites, including — - Yankee Harbor on Greenwich Island:
Backed by a huge ice cliff and home to a colony of gentoo penguins. - Half Moon Island: Provides unbelievable views of the surrounding mountains. Look for chinstrap penguins, kelp gulls, and Antarctic terns. Whales are often spotted, too.
- Whalers Bay on Deception Island: Known for its warm springs and black volcanic sand.
- Almirante Brown in Paradise Harbor: View spectacular ice cliffs and glaciers.
- Wilhelmina Bay: A feeding ground for whales and seals
- Port Lockroy: Surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and ice shelves, the southernmost point of our voyage was a British submarine detection base during World War II.
- Neko Harbor and Petermann Island: Home to gentoo penguins and elephant seals.
- Antarctic Sound: Where huge, mile-long tabular icebergs can be seen.
Leaving Antarctica on Day 11, we once again cruise the Drake Passage en route to Ushuaia, Argentina, our final port-of-call. Along the way, enjoy a series of lectures summing up your amazing Antarctica adventure.
