Tahiti & Her Islands Museum Tour (2009)
Papeete, Tahiti

Polynesia was populated as the result of successive waves of migration coming from Southeast Asia via seafaring canoes, beginning over 30,000 years ago.

The Museum of Tahiti and her islands began its history in 1967, with collections that had been gathered for a period of more than sixty years. There are four exhibit halls. The first hall is dedicated to the natural environment and to the settlement periods of the Eastern Pacific. The second hall offers a glimpse of ancient material culture. The third is an echo of the rich social and religious life of the first inhabitants in the islands and the fourth hall offers a panorama of recent Polynesian history.

Join us on a scenic coastal drive down along the West Coast of Tahiti, to Fishermans Point, located in the wealthy residential district of Punaaui, for a visit to the Museum of Tahiti and her Islands. Learn about the roots of Polynesian society, culture and history on your guided tour of the museum.

We’ll stop to relax and enjoy a delicious included lunch at Captain Bligh Restaurant, after our museum visit, and before continuing on up the East Coast, to the home of Roger & Juliette Gowan, where you’ll enjoy learning a bit about how they came to Tahiti as well as the history of the house they now call home. Experience insight into what it is like to live and work in Tahiti, when you visit their historic home for a guided tour of the gardens.
Approximate Time: 6 hours
Cost: $79 USD per person

Note: Moderate incline walking is required to visit the workshop, plus an hour of easy walking inside the museum. An excellent buffet Lunch is included. Coffee/tea and water are included with lunch. Additional beverages are available on our accounts.

Paul Gauguin Museum Tour (2009)
Papeete, Tahiti

Enjoy a scenic drive along the entire coast of Tahiti as you travel to The Paul Gauguin Museum, for insight into his world, and an opportunity to realize what life was like in Tahiti 1800’s. In 1891 Paul Gauguin sailed for the South Seas to escape European Civilization “everything that is artificial and conventional”, with the exception of one visit to France , from 1893 to 1895, he returned and remained in the tropics for the rest of his life. He lived in Tahiti for some years, and later in the Marquesan Islands, until the time of his death in 1903.

The museum features lithographs and prints of his original works, and an interesting retrospective of his life in the islands, told through documents, letters, writings and a collection of his household objects. There is a display of Gauguin’s works in miniature showing the whereabouts of all his paintings.

After visiting the museum we’ll stop to relax and sample local Tahitian foods such as bread fruit, taro, poisson cru, and fei, and enjoy an extensive hot and cold buffet lunch, at the Museum of Paul Gauguin Restaurant, situated on the water, on the scenic southern coast, overlooking Tahiti.

Following lunch we’ll stop at one of the most beautiful ancient ceremonial sites in Polynesia, Marae Arahurahu, before returning to the hotel with time for you relax and enjoy Sunday evening's classical concert.
