Pacing: 12 Days, 11 ports of call, and 10 nights aboard a Vantage Deluxe River ship. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the passing scenery along the canals and waterways. Sailing distances between ports are relatively short and this itinerary features several late evening departures and overnight stays.
Physical Activity: This itinerary is a relatively active one. All tours involve some walking over uneven terrain, cobblestone walkways, and flagstone paths, especially in ports of call like Schoonhoven and Hoorn. Expect multiple flights of stairs in some museums, and in older houses. One or two tours may involve short uphill climbs. The canal tour in Amsterdam requires embarking and debarking of a canal boat with a short flight of stairs. Panoramic tours use air-conditioned coaches.
Cultural Focus: Holland and Belgium come alive in the spring when the flowers are in bloom and the pastoral scenery is at its greenest. The rich maritime history, the great Dutch and Flemish masters of art’s Golden Age combine with canal-laced cities and villages and present a thorough look into the past, present, and future of these two great nations.
