DAYS 1-2:

Depart home / Overnight flight to Rhodes, Greece / Embark Ship

Board an overnight flight bound for Rhodes, Greece, and the beginning of your southern Aegean cruise. If you purchased your airfare from Vantage, you'll be met at the airport after clearing Immigration and Customs and and head to the pier to board the 50-passenger megayacht M/Y Harmony V. You’ll have some time to settle into your cabin before attending a Captain’s Welcome Dinner onboard this evening.

DAY 3:

Lindos (Rhodes)

Today finds us on Lindos, a charming harbor town on the larger island of Rhodes. Spend the morning exploring the hilltop Acropolis of Lindos, where you can discover the surviving architecture and admire the stunning coastline views. After returning to the ship for lunch, you’ll have the afternoon at leisure.

Cultural Connections: Visit a local pottery workshop in Lindos. That evening, learn about the fascinating history of Rhodes in the first of your lectures aboard ship.

DAY 4:

Karpathos

Today arrive at the serene island of Karpathos. Spend the morning exploring the scenery and culture on visits to several of the island's picturesque villages, such as Aperi, Othos, Pyles, Finiki, Arkassa, or Menetes. Return to the ship for lunch, then enjoy a leisure afternoon on the island's beautiful beaches, perhaps taking a swim in clear Aegean waters.

Cultural Connections: Learn about “Modern Greece” in a lecture. Enjoy entertainment on board by local musicians after dinner..

DAY 5:

Santorini

Cruise to the popular island of Santorini, where whitewashed houses rest on rugged cliffs overlooking a crystal-blue sea. Set out on a tour that takes you to the archaeological site of Akrotiri, the mountaintop monastery of Profitis Ilias, and the island's capital village Fira. Afterwards, take a cable car back to the pier and return to the ship for lunch. This afternoon, relax on board, explore Santorini on your own, or join an optional tour of the Oia and Santo Winery with a light lunch included. 

Cultural Connection: Prior to dinner this evening, listen to a lecture on “Architecture and Archaeology.”

Views of Santorini

You’ll get a different perspective of Santorini on this excursion, which takes you first to the cliff-top Santo winery. Here, tour the wine chambers and distilleries, sample some of the crisp white wines, and enjoy spectacular views over the water while you enjoy a light meal typical of the island. Afterwards, we head to the village of Oia on northernmost point on the island. Built on a steep slope of the caldera, Oia was once the home of wealthy seafarers. See their colorful two-story mansions and houses nestled in niches in the volcanic rock. Walk the narrow, cobbled streets to view tiny shops selling local handicrafts. Stop in one of the coffee shops set on the edge of a cliff for stunning views of the seas and back along the curve of Santorini to Fira, the island’s primary port. After returning to Fira, time permitting, you can spend time at leisure or return to ship via a cable car to the pier.


DAY 6:

Heraklion (Crete)

This morning, your ship arrives at Crete, largest of the Greek islands and home of the early Minoan civilization. Today you’ll visit Heraklion, Crete’s largest city, with a tour of the archaeological site of Knossos Palace. Home of legendary King Minos, it was also the political, economic, and religious center of Crete. Return to the ship for lunch, then enjoy an afternoon at leisure in Heraklion. Be sure to consider our optional Greek village tour to visit a traditional village on Crete, with a cooking lesson and lunch. 

Cultural Connections: Later, aboard ship, enjoy a fascinating lecture on “Greek Mythology.” After dinner, local musicians and dancers come onboard to put on a lively show for us.

Greek Village Tour with Cooking Lesson

The life of a traditional Greek village on Crete is deeply intertwined with the land around it, as you’ll discover on this fascinating and informative visit to the village of Arolithos. After strolling through the village, visit an exhibit on olives and their importance to the local way of life. Then, learn more about local traditions on a visit to a folk life museum. Afterwards, help prepare typical Creten dishes during a cooking lesson, then sit down to enjoy them for lunch.

DAY 7:

Chania / Rethimnon (Crete)

This morning you’ll call at Chania, another of Crete’s port cities. After breakfast, depart on a walking tour of Chania's picturesque Old Town and harbor area, where you'll see the architectural and cultural influence of the Venetian and Ottoman empires.You’ll have free time to explore the famous Chania Market and do some shopping. Following lunch aboard ship, enjoy a scenic motorcoach drive to the port city of Rethimnon, where you'll enjoy spectacular views from the Fortezza, a hilltop Venetian-era citadel. After free time to explore on your own, return to the ship for dinner.

DAY 8:

Monemvasia

Nearing the conclusion of the cruise portion of our journey, we call at Monemvasia, a church-filled fortress town perched on the Peloponnese coast. Here you’ll tour the historical Old Town. If you're feeling energetic, take the walk to the famous Church of Elkomenos and the hilltop Church of Saint Sophia.

Cultural Connection: Enjoy an included lunch and wine tasting at a family wine estate. Monemvasia is known for its wine, and you have the opportunity to sample some of the famous, whites, rosés, and reds while learning about the viticulture and history of the region.
