DAY 1

Depart home / Portland, Maine, USA

Overlooking Casco Bay, Portland is home to a wealth of historical and architectural masterpieces. Portland has an extensive nautical history that has been preserved throughout the centuries. Established by the British in 1632 as a fishing settlement, the town quickly became a mecca for shipping and trading companies. Big-city excitement blends delightfully with small-town charm as fishing vessels bustle in the harbor and Victorian-era buildings still line cobblestone streets. From classical to cutting-edge, the performance and visual arts are vibrantly alive in the city and infuse the region with excitement and sophistication. Enjoy a Welcome briefing by your Cruise Director in the hotel.

DAY 2

Our illuminating tour of Halifax begins with a visit to the picturesque Citadel, a star-shaped defense structure constructed in 1856 to defend the city from invading forces. This unique building is now populated by the 87th Highlander Regiment, which regularly performs reenactments inside the square. We’ll also pay a visit to the Halifax Museum of the Atlantic, an exception glimpse into Nova Scotia’s maritime heritage. On our way out of town, we’ll pass the Fairlawn Cemetery, where we’ll hear the compelling tale of how 100 of the RMS Titanic victims were recovered and buried. Continuing down the craggy coast, we’ll arrive at Peggy’s Cove, a lovely maritime village on St. Margaret’s Bay, just in time to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, followed by a free afternoon to explore the town’s colorful homes, eclectic waterfront district, and iconic lighthouse.

Prince Edward Island, Canada's tiniest and most charming province, is famous for its green fields, red earth, and white-sand beaches. During our excursion to historic Charlottetown, we’ll follow a trail through the same historic streets the delegates walked when they gathered in 1864 for the conference that led to the Confederation of Canada. Then, we’ll drive along the North Shore to Cavendish Bay, Prince Edward Island National Park, and the farmstead that inspired L.M. Montgomery’s beloved Anne of Green Gables. Enjoy free time strolling along the shores of the bay before we return to the ship for an exceptional dinner overlooking the sea.

DAY 7

Gaspé Peninsula, Québec

Today, we’ll arrive in the quiet bayside town of Gaspé on the northeastern tip of Québec. Gaspé was claimed for France by Jacques Cartier, who took refuge from a storm here in 1534. From this seaside town, we’ll take a scenic one-hour coach ride to Percé, where we’ll board a boat and cruise to the Rock of Percé, a dramatic sea arch just offshore. Then we’ll continue to Bonaventure Island, a former mecca for poets and painters and home of 293 different bird species – including puffins, cormorants, murres, auks, black-legged kittewake, boreal chickadees, and one of the largest colonies of gannets in the world. We'll be accompanied by local experts, who will help us interpret the unusual geology and rich aviary life along this rich coast. Back on shore, time permitting, we’ll enjoy free time in picturesque Percé before returning to the pier and the ship.
