Hotel Nacional de Cuba
The Nacional is not just Cuba’s grandest hotel; it is a national landmark whose foundations rest upon the historic Santa Clara Battery — a fortification that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Designed by the famous firm McKim, Meade & White in the 1920s to evoke the grand Hispano-Moorish style, it has hosted an ongoing parade of international leaders and celebrities such as Winston Churchill, the Prince of Wales, John Wayne, Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Meyer Lansky, Mickey Mantle, and countless others. Their images adorn the hotel’s venerable Hall of Fame bar, and their stories infuse the Nacional with atmosphere and legends. While not luxurious by American standards, you'll be comfortable here during your Cuba vacation with rooms that feature air-conditioning, traditional décor, and standard amenities.
The Hotel Jagua
is set in a quiet residential section of the Punta Gorda neighborhood, overlooking Cienfuegos Bay. After a recent complete renovation, the Jagua
now evokes the classic mid-century modern style in which it was originally built in 1959. Rooms are spacious and bright, with air-conditioning, private tiled baths, sliding glass doors overlooking the gardens or bay, and in-room safes. On the spacious main lobby floor there is a full bar and open seating areas. The Jagua
offers two restaurants, a large pool, patios, a bar, and snack bar. Directly across the grounds is the historic Palacio del Valle, noted for its popular restaurant, piano bar, and rooftop bar.
