Victoria & the Beautiful Butchart Gardens

  • Approximate Cost: $160 USD per person
  • Approximate Time: 4-6 hours
  • Location: Victoria, BC
  • When: Full-day tour
This tour begins with a 90 minute ferry across Georgia Strait to Victoria, a picture-perfect city laced with old-world charm and adorned with fragrant and colorful flowers. Founded in 1843 by James Douglas of the Hudson Bay Company, the city was first known as Fort Victoria. By 1848, Vancouver was made a British crown colony and Victoria became its capital.

In 1858, Victoria was a tent city for those touched with gold fever and was the base for some 25,000 prospectors on their way to Frasier River. When Vancouver Island was incorporated with mainland British Columbia in 1868, Victoria was made the capital of the entire province.

Get ready to fall in love with Victoria as you arrive in this delightful city. You’ll first drive along Marine Drive, with its vistas of Juan de Fuca Strait and the Olympic Mountains. Then pass Beacon Hill Park on your way to stately downtown. Here you’ll see the most popular sights of this charming city, including “Old Town” and Chinatown, the Royal Victoria Yacht Club and the University of Victoria.

Then it’s on to what’s sure to be the highlight of your day — a visit to beautiful Butchart Gardens. The Gardens themselves are 35 acres of one colorful flower after another — truly a flora lover’s dream come true. Wander at your leisure through the Sunken Garden, the Japanese and Italian gardens, and the English Rose Garden — all linked by spacious lawns, streams, and lily ponds.

There will also be free time during the day to enjoy lunch on your own at one of the restaurants in Butchart Gardens.

Please note: This tour is not available for sale prior to your departure. See your Adventure Leader for details.
