Tallinn, Estonia
In this capital’s Old Town — which has been named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO — medieval walls and turrets, needling spires, and winding, cobbled streets preserve the aura of the 14th century. The center of Tallinn, Estonia’s capital, is a remarkably intact city of the Middle Ages.

Helsinki, Finland
Finland’s capital manages to embrace nature in an urban setting the way few cities do. Contemporary Finnish style complements the setting with a love of clean lines and open spaces. Architectural treasures include Senate and Market Squares; the Sibelius Memorial and Park; Temppeliaukio Church and marble Finlandia Hall, one of the world’s most impressive concert venues.
