Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

Yet another Cultural Connection lures you closer to life in the Maritimes. From Pointe de Chene, you’ll embark on a “Lobster Tails” luncheon cruise in Shediac, known as the “Lobster Capital of the World.” You’ll observe the impressive skill of lobster trappers, and savor a fresh lobster of your own for lunch. Afterwards, en route to Charlottetown, you’ll stop by the old ferry terminal for fantastic views of the Confederation Bridge, the longest bridge in the world to cross ice-covered salt water. Later, arrive in Charlottetown, where you’ll check into your hotel — actually a group of restored inns from the 1880s. The rest of the afternoon and evening are at leisure.

On Day 8, tiny Prince Edward Island (“PEI” to the locals) — also known as “Spud Island” for its large potato production — serves as your sightseeing base. You can relive the heartwarming story of Anne Shirley, the loveable orphan of author Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables, when you visit the Anne of Green Gables Museum. You’ll be treated to a horse-drawn carriage ride through beautiful flower gardens and over rolling hills. You’ll also share tea with the Campbells — relatives of Montgomery who have lived at the old homestead called Silver Bush for over 230 years. You’ll learn about potato planting, too, an all-important industry on PEI. Later, depart for a visit to PEI National Park, followed by a stop at PEI Preserves to sample locally made fruit preserves.
