  • Approximate Time: 4.5 hours
  • Location: (Extension only) Madeira, Portugal
  • When: Evening tour
Enjoy an evening of entertainment with dinner featuring a typical Portuguese dish called Espetada, a four-foot skewer of meat, rubbed in rock salt and marinated in garlic and bay leaves, cooked over a wooden fire. During dinner, enjoy a live performance of Madeira’s traditional dance, which reflects rural patterns of work. Marvel as the dancers bend beneath the weight of imaginary stacks of sugar cane or baskets of bananas as they carry them along the island's steep paths. Some dances date back to the time of Moorish slavery.

Flamenco Show

  • Cost: $99 USD per person
  • Approximate Time: 3 hours
  • Location: Madrid, Spain
  • When: Half-day tour
Flamenco, a vibrant mixture of dance, song, and guitar, is the heart and soul of Spain. This lively music has evolved alongside the contrasting historic influences of Arabic, Jewish, and Gypsy cultures and dates as far back as the 1450s.

You’ll enjoy a lively evening at the Tablao Villa-Rosa, a gorgeously tiled building that depicts the colorful artistry this culture is famous for. Feel the energy of Spanish dancing during an expressive flamenco performance, the perfect way to explore Spanish culture during an evening of drinks and entertainment.

Please note: This optional tour is available on the Madrid extension only. Two drinks are included in the price of this tour; dinner is not included.

Madeira Island Tour and Botanical Garden

  • Cost: $125 USD per person
  • Approximate Time: 8 hours
  • Location: (Extension only) Madeira, Portugal
  • When: Full day tour
This day-long tour is a great opportunity to see several faces of Madeira! First, you'll climb to the peak of Pico do Arieiro to take in breathtaking views. Then, descend to Ribeiro Frio to visit the trout hatchery, located in a valley amongst lush greenery. Continue your descent to the interior of the island, where you'll enjoy a typical Portuguese lunch, followed by a short visit to Santana. Your final stop will be at the Botanical Gardens, where you'll have the chance to see examples of the fantastic flora from Madeira (weather permitting).

Sintra & the Coast of Portugal

  • Cost: $69 USD per person
  • Approximate Time: 6 hours
  • Location: Portugal
  • When: Full-day Tour

Your tour begins with a scenic drive along the coastline to the quiet fishing village of Cascais. Once you have arrived, you can enjoy lunch on your own and take in the postcard-perfect scenery before continuing to our next destination: Sintra. The town of Sintra has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the wealth of 19th century Romantic architectural monuments it contains, as well as its predominance in Portuguese culture. You'll visit the town's ornate palace before enjoying some time on your own to explore this whimsical site.

Toledo

  • Cost: $99 USD per person
  • Approximate Time: 5 hours
  • Location: Toledo, Spain
  • When: Afternoon
In the UNESCO World Heritage City of Toledo, southwest of Madrid, visitors enjoy a cross-sectional view of Spanish heritage spanning more than 2,000 years. Buildings dating to the Roman era have been repurposed and transformed by decoration by successive rulers, from the Visigoths to the Moors, right through the Spanish Civil War! Within the city walls you’ll find exquisite examples of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian houses of worship, proving that at one time, people of different religions could exist peacefully side-by-side. Your tour includes a stop at the mountaintop old town, where you’ll find the Alcázar, the cathedral, and the main market square — not to mention show-stopping views over the city!
