Your itinerary has nine Included Features, three Cultural Discoveries, and visits to  some of Europe's most fascinating cities. Discover Budapest, one of Europe's most impressive capitals, and attend a classical concert at the Kursalon Music Hall in Vienna. Get to know Melk, where we’ll tour the active Benedictine monastery. Explore historic towns like Regensburg and Passau‚ and discover Linz or opt to visit Salzburg, the UNESCO-listed town immortalized in The Sound of Music. DAY 1:

Depart home

Board your flight bound for Germany this evening. 

DAY 2:

Regensburg, Germany

On arrival, a Vantage representative will assist you with your transfer to your ship from the Munich airport.  Once on board, settle in before joining your fellow travelers for a welcome drink with the Captain. Dinner is on the ship this evening. 

Active Feature: Reserve one of the 30 bikes onboard the ship ahead of time and you embark on two-wheeled tour of this charming town as soon as you settle in. If there are no bikes available, your Cruise Director can help you find one to rent. 

Your crew can provide you with maps and information to ensure you get the most from a leisurely cycling tour in Regensburg.

DAY 3:

Regensburg, Germany

Today, you'll explore Regensburg, which was largely spared from World War II bombing and thus is remarkably well preserved. This UNESCO-listed city has a history stretching back to the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, and you’ll get to know its heritage during a walking tour. Wander the city, getting a chance to admire its historic buildings and the ancient Roman stones at Porta-Praetoria Arch. Active Feature: For those who are interested, we'll also have a more active walking tour that will take you to Thurn & Taxis Palace. Once home to the eponymous noble family, this 18th-century former abbey features some impressive architecture and intriguing history. Your afternoon is at leisure, and the Captain's Dinner is onboard this evening. Active Feature: Embark on a unique "Beggars, Jugglers, and Executioners" tour, or take the bikes out for another exploration.

DAY 4:

Passau, Germany

Baroque splendor awaits you in Passau, favorably located at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz, and Danube rivers. Active Feature and Unforgettable MomentAdmire the Old Town's beguiling combination of Italian-baroque and medieval architecture on an active walking tour that takes you to the three main hills in Passau: Domber, Mariahilfberg, and Georgsberg. In addition to enjoying some refreshments along the way, we'll take in some spectacular views. This afternoon, enjoy a cooking demonstration where you'll learn how to make German sour cabbage and try some local wheat beer. Dinner is on the ship this evening. 

Active Feature: Take those bikes out for a look around another magnificent city.

DAY 5:

Linz, Austria

Active feature:  Enjoy a walking tour of lovely Linz, a former Roman settlement with a rich history as a trade hub along the Danube, followed by hiking through charming Poestlingberg, including its famed church. Or set off for an optional tour in Salzburg, the baroque jewel of a city nestled in the Austrian Alps, where you’ll see many fine examples of notable architecture and some of the locales featured in The Sound of Music. No matter which tour you choose, you’ll have time to soak up the charm of this area. Cultural Discovery: After dinner, enjoy some local entertainment in the lounge.

Active Feature: Embark on a walking tour to the Ars Electronica Museum of Technology. Dubbed the "Museum of the Future," it is sure to captivate the whole group. 

Biking Opportunity: Follow the Danube to the small town of Mauthausen, were you’ll find the remains of a former Austrian concentration camp during a moderate 32-mile route. Click here for details.

Embark on this optional tour of Salzburg, a jewel of a city nestled in the Austrian Alps. The famed birthplace of Mozart and the site where The Sound of Music was filmed, this city is teeming with charm. On a walking tour of the Old Town, also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’ll see many fine examples of notable architecture and learn the history of this picturesque town.  

DAY 6:

Melk, Austria

We venture to Melk today. The highlight of the day will likely be Melk Abbey, which has been a spiritual center of this region for nearly a thousand years. We'll enjoy a guided tour of the Abbey, admiring its impressive scale as well as its artwork and the view from its perch overlooking the town. We may see some monks milling around as well; the Benedictine order has been a staple here for 900 years. Our afternoon is at leisure on the ship, and there will be an apple strudel making demonstration on board as well as a lecture on the history and modern significance of the EU. Active Feature: Take one of the 30 bikes we have out for a spin in Melk.  Dinner is on the ship, and we arrive in Vienna tonight.

DAY 7:

Vienna, Austria

Today, explore Vienna, Austria's grand capital, on a scenic city tour.  This insightful coach and walking tour will give you a comprehensive view of this storied city at the heart of central Europe. Your afternoon is free to explore Vienna, perhaps on a self-guided cycling tour or in an electric-powered boat. Unforgettable Moment: Later you will enjoy a concert at Vienna's esteemed Kursalon music hall, a remarkable chance to attend a classical performance at a renowned venue. 

Active Feature: Your afternoon is free to explore Vienna — perhaps on a self-guided cycling tour that takes you to places you might not see on foot or in a coach or perhaps on zipping through the town on an electric boat.

DAY 8:


Active Feature and Unforgettable Moment: Today begins with a fun option: an "early riser" walking tour. See the Austrian capital awaken, and get a glimpse of the city as it begins to come alive. We'll end this active walking tour with coffee at one of Vienna's legendary coffeehouses.

For the remainder of the morning, you can discover the capital on your own, or join an optional tour to explore the elegant Schönbrunn Palace (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). This afternoon is yours to do as you please here in one of Europe's most distinguished cities. Your Adventure Leader will have maps and information should you wish to take one of the bikes out for a ride to take in the sights and sounds of the City of Music. Back at the ship, you can participate in a Weiner Schnitzel cooking demonstration with a special tasting of Gruner Veltiner, a local Austrian style of wine. The whole clan can visit the House of Music Interactive Museum to experience everything from the great composers of the past to the future of digital music.

Schönbrunn Palace

Set off on this optional tour to Schönbrunn Palace, a grand baroque edifice with a rich history dating back to the 16th century.   The place has an impressive 1,441 rooms (though only 40 are open to vistors) and was an imperial summer palace for the Habsburg dynasty.  With a history and grandeur that more than justifies its UNESCO World Heritage Site status, this is an excellent spot to visit during your time in Vienna.  

DAY 9:

Bratislava, Slovakia

This morning, you’ll get to know Bratislava. On your walking tour, glimpse the diverse historical sites — including Bishop’s Palace, Main Square, and the National Theater – of this intriguing capital.  

Active Feature: This afternoon, you'll have free time to discover more of the city on the bikes we have aboard ship for your cycling pleasure. The afternoon also offers another unforgettable experience: rafting. Paddling through rapids is truly exhilarating, and you'll experience this thrill just a short drive from Bratislava. You'll be taken to a special area designed to introduce you to the sport, and onsite experts will be there with you to ensure that you know what to do. The whitewater spray, the adrenaline, the camaraderie — this is the kind of experience that will have you laughing with your fellow travelers afterwards. In the evening, enjoy onboard entertainment.

Biking Opportunity: Follow the path of the Iron Curtain, where you’ll enjoy excellent views of the Bratislava Castle and the Danube, during an 8-mile route. Click here for details.

DAY 10:

Budapest, Hungary

Draped over several hills on a gentle curve in the Danube River, Budapest is a beautiful, baroque capital whose city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Get to know the city on an included city tour. On the Buda side of the river, take in stunning views of Pest across the Danube from a fairytale-like terrace called Fisherman’s Bastion.

The rest of your day is at leisure, which is a perfect time to take advantage of the bikes we have waiting for you onboard. Your crew can provide you with maps and information to ensure you get the most from a leisurely cycling tour in Hungary's capital. You'll also enjoy another cooking demonstration. This time, the delicacy is Hungarian gullas (goulash), which we'll have to opportunity to enjoy after we learn how to make it. Active Feature: You'll have yet another opportunity to explore by bicycle. Tonight, enjoy a cocktail hour and dinner on board.

Biking Opportunity: Enjoy the most magnificent sites of Budapest, including Freedom Bridge, Chain Bridge and the Hungarian Parliament Building during an easy 5-mile route. Click here for details.

DAY 11:

Budapest / Disembark ship / Transfer to Budapest Airport

Disembark your river cruise ship and transfer to the Budapest airport to return home. Or stay in the Hungarian capital for your extension.
