Today, you’ll arrive in Zurich. If you purchased your airfare from Vantage, a Vantage representative will meet you and arrange transfer to your deluxe river ship in Basel. You'll enjoy a welcome drink onboard this evening, as well as a briefing and a delightful Welcome Dinner.
Embark on a walking and canal tour in Strasbourg
Unforgettable Moment: Bonjour and welcome to picturesque Strasbourg! Following a morning drive from Kehl over the border into France, take part in an included canal boat tour followed by a walking tour that will include such sights as the elegant Palais Rohan, Cathedral Notre Dame, the ultra-modern European Union Parliament, the quaint shops and parks of “La Petite France,” and the Tanner’s Quarter. You’ll also explore the UNESCO-listed Grande Île, a fascinating island at the city’s heart. You'll savor lunch back onboard your river ship, or spend an afternoon snacking independently in the city center. Should you wish to return, take your convenient afternoon shuttle bus back to Strasbourg — you can even take your complimentary onboard bikes for a spin. You can also join an optional Alsace Countryside tour, with a visit to a winery and a tasting included.
Highlights of Speyer and Heidelberg
Today, embark on a walking tour of Speyer and its eponymous 11th-century cathedral. Once one of the largest cathedrals in the world, this UNESCO World Heritage Site remains the final resting place for many former emperors and heads of state. That would be enough to make this a spectacular day, but there’s more to come: you’ll also set off for a tour of Heidelberg, a red-roofed town on the Neckar River and home to Germany's oldest university. Unforgettable Moment: Enjoy panoramic views from the plaza of imposing Heidelberg Castle, a Gothic-Renaissance ruin of red stone looming above the downtown. Your walking tour will also include Old Town, Holy Ghost Church, Town Hall and the Zum Ritter building. Cultural Connection: Dinner will be onboard the ship this evening, and you’ll also enjoy a cooking demonstration and a live tap and jazz quartet.
Explore charming Rudesheim and 2,000-year-old Koblenz
Enjoy a relaxing morning of scenic cruising on the Rhine as you make your way to Rudesheim. Upon arrival, you’ll board the charming Winzer Express, a trolley that will introduce you to the town and to some its most remarkable vistas. You’ll also visit Siegfried’s Musikkabinett, a unique museum dedicated to all manner of mechanical music devices. After lunch onboard, you’ll sail to Koblenz, a city more than 2,000 years old strategically set at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. From the wedge-shaped headland where the waters meet, known as Deutsches Eck or "German Corner," a giant equestrian statue of Kaiser Wilhelm I overlooks the united rivers. This Afternoon, enjoy a wine tasting and lecture by Lunnebach Winery. Upon arrival in Koblenz, you’ll set off for a walking tour of this charming city, specifically the history-rich Old Town. Cultural Connection: Dinner will be onboard this evening, followed by wine tasting and entertainment from a string band.
Meet the “count” of Reichsburg Castle, sip some wine, soak up the scenery
Spend the morning taking in the scenery in Cochem. Later, enjoy a guided visit to fairy-tale Reichsburg Castle, perched atop a steep hill in the quaint town of Cochem on the Moselle River. Meet the “count” in the castle and enjoy a glass of the fine Riesling produced in the area. In the afternoon, you'll enjoy scenic cruising through the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with commentary from the ship's bridge on the legend of Lorelei. Cultural Connection: Learn some helpful phrases in Dutch during an onboard lesson.
Explore Cologne on a walking tour and try some local “Kölsch bier”
Your ship will arrive in Cologne this morning. The city was founded in the first century and became the seat of Roman rule in the region known as Germania Inferior. Although it's now Germany's fourth largest city, Cologne preserves many fine medieval structures, including Romanesque churches, the city hall, and three of the city's 12 medieval gates. Cultural Connection: You'll get a feel for this mix of old and new on a city walking tour that includes a stop at the massive twin-spired Cologne Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as a visit to a local brewery for a taste of "Koelsch-Bier" (a traditional German ale) and some distinctive German snacks.

Visit a local cheesemaker and explore Amsterdam
We awake in another country, where another day filled with wonderful discoveries awaits us. We’ll set off on a tour of quaint Volendam this morning, soaking up the charm of this harborside village. Your tour will include a stop at a local cheesemaker, who will not only provide insights on the practice, but allow you to sample some of the creations! It’s a delightful and delectable experience. After lunch on board the ship, you’ll travel by coach to Amsterdam where you’ll set off on a city tour that includes Central Market Square and the historic colorful market Albert Cuyp, followed by a cruise through the Dutch capital’s UNESCO-listed canal ring. Cultural Connection: Dinner and entertainment cap your day, as you begin reflecting on a journey you’ll long remember.
Disembark and begin your journey home
After breakfast onboard, transfer to the airport for your flight home or to Bruges to begin your optional extension.
