Enjoy a city walking tour here before an afternoon of scenic sailing. Admire scenic valleys on the Elbe that will be complimented with commentary as you cruise. Walk in the park, and in Martin Luther’s footsteps
This morning’s discoveries are in Wittenberg, famous for one very special resident: Martin Luther. This German priest forever changed the face of the faithful in 1517 when he nailed his Theses to the door of All Saints’ Church in Wittenberg, igniting the Protestant Reformation. You’ll visit his home today — a UNESCO site — and witness other important UNESCO markers: the Martin Luther memorial, and, if time allows, the historic Stadtkirche, where the first Mass was celebrated in German (not Latin) and where the congregation was able to partake in the bread and wine ceremony, now common practice in Catholicism, but unheard of in the 16th century.
In the afternoon, you'll visit the Garden Kingdom Dessau-Wörlitz, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you'll tour the Castle Wörlitz and view the beautiful grounds surrounding it. Then embark a weather-dependent gondola cruise before heading back to your ship.
Medieval splendor in Tangermünde awaits

You’ll also have free time, and you can see St. Stephen’s Church, featuring one of Europe’s most splendid organs, or perhaps you’ll grab a coffee for some extra energy to stroll to the castle. This evening is your Captain’s Farewell Cocktail Party and Dinner.
Cultural Connection: This morning you’ll also be treated to a lecture on Tangermünde’s role as a wealthy Hanseatic city. Although it later decreased in economic performance, that contributed to its charming architecture dating back hundreds of years, due to lack of redevelopment.

Explore Berlin’s dark past and its renaissance
Once divided by the Berlin Wall, the city of Berlin is now reunited, and has emerged as Europe’s vibrant capital of innovation. One of the crowning glories of the rejuvenated city is the restored Tiergarten, the great central park that almost succumbed to damage and neglect, both during and after the war. Take time to stroll through it today, or opt for a special day with a bike-rental — how most locals get around — and cover more ground, including Berlin’s trendy restaurant scene.
On a city tour, get an overview of this vibrant city as you follow Berlin’s grand boulevards to such landmarks as Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, and the trendy district of Tempelhof, best known for its decommissioned airport that was once a site of Nazi rallies and the Berlin airlift. Today it’s a huge park with picnic areas, gardens, and paths for cyclists. Cultural Connections: Your tour includes entrance to the grim yet fascinating “Topography of Terror” exhibit, which is located at the Berlin Wall Memorial. In it, the story of Nazi repression is revealed as you pass through the excavated remains of the Gestapo and SS headquarters.
The rest of the day is at your leisure, or you can participate in our WWII & Cold War optional tour, which includes the Allied Museum and its fascinating British transport plane as well as a nuclear bomb shelter. In the evening, savor one final Farewell Dinner with your fellow travelers at the hotel.
