While Dusseldorf is an economic powerhouse, it’s also famed for its arts scene and lovely location on the picturesque banks of the Rhine. Besides a charming Old Town (Altstadt), there’s also a famous beer to sip — Altbier — and it’s dark and plentiful, along with lots of shopping streets.
Amsterdam canal cruise, and a visit to the Rijksmusem
Embark on a canal cruise through this charming city — the canals are considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and also stop at the famed Rijksmusem. You'll also get a chance to visit a local diamond shop, a popular trade in this region.
Wander this European gem
Today, enjoy a full day at leisure. Perhaps you’ll visit the Anne Frank House (make sure to reserve your tickets in advance online or with your city host); the site of the WWII heroine is located in a charming district called De 9 Straatjes (The 9 Streets), a photogenic canal side neighborhood filled with charming shops and bakeries. You may also consider our optional tour to Zaanse Shaanse & Edam, a charming 17th-century living history village. This evening, toast a great trip at an included dinner.
The Dutch say, “if you only have one day to see Holland, then go to Zaanse Schans,” so we take you there on our “quintessential Holland” excursion. You’ll take a short scenic ride through the countryside to this “living museum” to admire the houses, hump-backed bridges, charming gardens, tradesmen’s workshops, and authentic, working windmills dating to the 17th century. You’ll get a lesson in cheese making, step inside a windmill, and see how a clog maker crafts those unique shoes. Next you’ll go on a guided tour of picturesque Edam, famous for its eponymous cheese. Before heading back to Amsterdam, you’ll try a typical Dutch treat, coffee and apple cake, at a local café.
Today after breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight home.
