This itinerary features overnight and full-day stays in many ports, with the ship departing late in the evening. Travelers on the Transylvania extension will spend 9 nights aboard aboard a Vantage Deluxe river boat — either the ms River Splendor
or ms River Voyager —
and one night in Bucharest and one night in Brasov, as part of the base program, plus three additional nights in Brasov as part of the extension.
EASY & FAST WALKING TOURS:
On your Danube river cruise, you'll have a chance to join included walking tours that go at an easier leisurely pace or some that go at a faster clip, depending upon your abilities and preferences. Either way, you won't miss any highlights, and on some tours you'll have free time to walk on your own.
This European river cruise features an active itinerary featuring several full days of touring. You can expect drives of one and half hours as many of the sites visited are at some distance from the ports along the Danube. While all motor coaches are air-conditioned, the quality standards can differ from those in Western Europe. Much of the walking on tours is over uneven terrain, cobblestone walkways, and flagstone paths. Coaches are used whenever possible to bring you as close to pedestrian centers as the historic preservation of these older towns and cities can allow. You will be visiting several sites where there are multiple flights of stairs and no elevators.
Please note: Vantage river cruise ships are not wheelchair accessible and there are steps on board.
The centuries-old history of the emerging nations of Eastern Europe is surprising to many who enjoy a Danube river cruise. From the imperial capital of Budapest, through the Danube's Iron Gates, this journey embraces the proud heritage of Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Hungary and Croatia, then and now. The focus is on the people, their multi-cultural beginnings, and this dynamic region poised at the crossroads of history.
