Depart home / Overnight Flight to Amsterdam, the Netherlands /  Embark Ship

DAY 3:


Today, embark on a lovely canal cruise along the Amsterdam’s 17th-century canal ring that has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will then visit the recently renovated Rijksmuseum, home of Amsterdam’s premier art collection, including works by such Dutch masters as Rembrandt and Vermeer. 

Culinary Activity: Tonight, celebrate your first night onboard during the Captain’s Welcome Dinner, which will feature a special Dutch theme.

DAY 4:

Cologne, Germany

This morning, enjoy a guided walking tour of Cologne, getting a chance to learn about this city’s rich history. After the tour, you'll also have free time to explore on your own. Cultural Connection: Some evening entertainment onboard the ship offers the perfect coda to your day. 

Culinary Activity: Join a walking tour of Cologne that will include a special tasting of Koelsch beer.

DAY 5:


Arrive in Cochem around lunchtime, after which you'll enjoy a guided visit to fairy-tale Reichsburg Castle, perched atop a steep hill in this quaint town on the Moselle River. Meet the “count” in the castle and enjoy a glass of the fine Riesling produced in the area. This evening, Movie Night features "Patton," which will be of particular interest if you've selected the optional tour Luxembourg, which includes the American Cemetery where the famous general is buried.

Culinary Activity: Tonight, enjoy a special German dinner onboard.

DAY 6:


On Day 6, you’ll have the entire day at leisure to explore Schweich on your own or just relax. Alternatively, make an optional full-day excursion to Luxembourg, where you’ll pay your respects at the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial, the solemn resting place for more than 5,000 US soldiers. You’ll also take a panoramic tour of Luxembourg City. 

Culinary Activity: Learn how to properly cook genuine Sauer Braten during an onboard cooking demonstration.

Luxembourg Tour

DAY 7:


Today, enjoy a walking tour of Bernkastel, known as the “International Town of Vines and Wine,” which produces high-quality Rieslings. The surrounding landscape boasts massive fortresses and fairy-tale castles, and the town’s half-timbered houses lining the banks of the Moselle will enchant you. Cultural Connections: Learn about Germany’s light and fruity vintages during a wine tasting. Zum Wohl!

DAY 8:

Bernkastel / Trier / Zell am Mosel

Today you'll discover Trier, the oldest city in Germany, on an included tour that visits the amphitheater and viewing the Porta Nigra (a massive stone gate), the Roman Bridge, and Barbara Baths. Spend this afternoon at leisure, relaxing or exploring on your own. Cultural Connection: Enjoy lunch ashore at Weingut Georg Fritz von Nell.

Culinary Activity: Learn how to cook German sausages during a demonstration.

DAY 9:


This morning, enjoy a lecture introducing you to Boppard. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its fine Riesling wines along with its ties to the Roman Empire. You'll have time on your own to explore. In the afternoon you'll enjoy scenic cruising through the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with commentary from the ship's bridge on the legend of Lorelei.

DAY 10:


Located at the confluence of the Main and Rhine rivers, Mainz was once the seat of the Holy Roman Empire. Here, you’ll visit the Johannes Gutenberg Museum, dedicated to the inventor of moveable type and home to one of the original Gutenberg Bibles. This afternoon, enjoy free time in Mainz, and enjoy local entertainment on board ship tonight.

Culinary Activity: Learn how to cook German sour cabbage and sausage during an onboard cooking demonstration, which will also feature a wine tasting.

DAY 11:

Mannheim / Germersheim

In Mannheim, we enjoy a morning at leisure or embark on an optional half-day excursion to Heidelberg, a red-roofed town on the Neckar River that is home to Germany's oldest university. In the afternoon, you’ll transfer by coach to Speyer. Savor some home-hosted coffee and cake, allowing you to chat with locals who can provide a unique perspective on their homeland. Then, embark on a walking tour of the town, including an exploration of this city’s 11th-century cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was once one of the largest cathedrals in the world. You’ll then have some time on your own in Speyer.

DAY 12:

Gambsheim / Kehl / Strasbourg

Transfer to Strasbourg by coach, where you'll enjoy an included walking and canal boat tour take you to the elegant Palais Rohan; Cathedral Notre Dame; the ultra-modern European Union Parliament; the quaint shops and parks of “La Petite France”; and the Tanner’s Quarter. You can also join an optional Black Forest tour with a cake-making demonstration and tasting. In the evening, enjoy an entertaining performance by Armand Jehle.

Culinary Activity: Enjoy a French-Alsatian dinner onboard tonight, which will be followed by local entertainment.

Black Forest Tour

You’ll ride along the scenic Bundesstrasse 500, an impressive auto route that’s commonly referred to as the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse, or “Black Forest High Street.” Zoom along a road that  rises dramatically from 200 to 3000 feet above sea level in a mere 10-15 mile stretch. You’ll arrive at the historic Berghotel Mummelsee, a popular tourist destination for the past 120 years. You’ll head to the hotel restaurant for a Black Forest cake making demonstration and tasting. Afterwards, you may stroll around the lake and shop for traditional Black Forest products like cuckoo clocks, cherry liqueur, and more. 

DAY 13:

Breisach, Germany

On Day 13, you’ll enjoy a full-day Alsatian Wine Route tour, with a visit to Colmar and the famous Unterlinden Museum. In Riquewihr, known for its Riesling wines, enjoy a walking tour and money to enjoy lunch during your free time exploring the city. You may also partake in wine tastings at different wine cellars using a coupon provided by Vantage. Cultural Connection: Enjoy a lecture on the European Union today.

DAY 14:


Set out for a visit to the university town of Freiburg, located in the foothills of the Black Forest region. In the evening, celebrate the winding-down of your memorable journey with the Captain's Farewell Reception & Dinner.

Located on the Rhine river, Basel traces its history as far back as the early Celts and Roman Empire. You’ll take a half-day city tour, then enjoy your afternoon and evening at leisure.
