Today, its Old Town is a delight to browse and its many galleries draw art lovers from all over Europe. You’ll get acquainted during a walking tour, then enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Today you’ll enjoy a full-day Alsatian Wine Route tour, stopping first to stroll through the charming colorful streets of Colmar, renowned as the capital of Alsatian wine. Visit its famous Unterlinden Museum, a 13th-century Dominican convent housing the beloved Isenheim Altarpiece, a lush and moving polyptych. Arrive in Bernkastel this morning, half of Bernkastel-Kues, the dual wine-making town that straddles the Moselle. After breakfast on board, begin your day with a lecture on the ancient Roman presence in Germany. After, head to Trier, said to be the oldest city in Germany, conquered by Romans in the first century. During a panoramic and walking tour, witness their epic legacy when you view the amphitheater, Porta Nigra stone gate, the Roman Bridge, Barbara Baths, and the Cathedral of St. Peter. As you sail toward Amsterdam later this afternoon, you’ll learn a bit about the local language during a Dutch lesson. As you cruise, learn to prepare another local favorite with your chef.
