What to Expect

Activity Level

Takes into consideration the physical requirements for each of the trips, walking, hiking, climbing in and out of safari vehicles etc.
           Moderately Easy

Travelers should be able to climb 40 stairs consecutively, plus walk at least 2-3 miles over some uneven surfaces without difficulty. Walks typically last for at least 2-3 hours at a time. Altitude can range from zero to 5,000 feet.

Pacing

Takes into consideration the length of bus rides, flights, number of destinations in the number of days
           Moderate

Pacing is sometimes robust, and may include several long days with early hotel departures, active sightseeing and evening activities. Opportunities for daytime rest and rejuvenation may be limited on most days. May include significant motor coach time, two or more on-tour flights, and/or occasional travel via non-traditional means such as safari vehicles, Zodiac ship tenders, rickshaws/pedi-cabs, etc.

PACING:

  • This trip is moderately paced
  • Your 29-day journey includes 22 nights aboard the 5-star Ocean Odyssey; plus two nights in Singapore at the Conrad Centennial Singapore (or similar) and two nights in Darwin at the Hilton Darwin (or similar)
  • In addition to your arrival and departure cities, you’ll visit 19 ports of call
  • There are three days at sea and several afternoons when you have ample time to relax and enjoy the amenities on board your luxury expedition vessel
  • We often cruise overnight, but some scenic sailing will be conducted during daylight hours

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
You should be in relatively good health to fully enjoy this tour.

  • This journey does not entail walking for great distances, but you will be on your feet for up to four hours for half-day excursions and eight hours for full-day excursions
  • Most city sightseeing takes place on air-conditioned coaches and city walking tours with guides
  • There are several walking tours through historic centers and villages where uneven steps and cobblestones should be expected
  • This cruisetour is not suitable for those who have difficulty walking or require wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Please refer to Vantage's wheelchair and handicapped traveler policy

TERRAIN & TRANSPORTATION:

  • Your ship is your main means of transportation between destinations
  • All land transportation is conducted on board deluxe, air-conditioned motorcoaches
  • During several tours, you’ll travel as locals do: Aboard horse carts, trishaws, and traditional boats
  • We will utilize Zodiac boats at some ports

CLIMATE:

  • In all your Southeast Asian destinations, the climate is subtropical or tropical, and there is very little variation in temperatures and high humidity. Expect average daily highs around 87°–93°F (30-34°C), with evenings typically 5-10 degrees lower. November through January are usually the rainiest months
  • The sun is strong in all our destinations, so sunscreen, sunglasses, and sun hats are musts
  • Stay cool by wearing lightweight fabrics (such as cotton or linen)
  • For protection from the sun, do as the locals do and cover up by wearing longer pants or skirts, plus shirts with sleeves
  • Bring a light rain jacket or umbrella
  • At sea it can occasionally be windy. A windbreaker, sweater, or light jacket is recommended

Please note: Ocean-cruising is not the same experience as river cruising; as such, you may experience fluctuating tides and weather patterns that may involve some rocking of your vessel. Itineraries will include all activities as planned except in extreme cases that can’t be controlled by your shipboard crew. The above day-by-day itineraries are preliminary and therefore subject to change. If changes occur while on tour, you will be notified by your Vantage Adventure Leader or regional expert.
