Exploring Stockholm

Get acquainted with the irresistible charms and remarkable history of Stockholm, spread across 14 islands knit together by some 57 bridges. On your cultural tour of this “Venice of the North,” you’ll walk through the narrow streets of the delightful Gamla Stan, or Old Town, and enjoy views of Stockholm City Hall and the city’s equally attractive newer sections. Cultural Discovery: Then, visit the fascinating Vasa Museum, where you’ll see the amazing “ghost ship” of the same name — the world’s only fully intact 17th-century warship. The massive vessel sank just offshore on its maiden voyage in 1628. It lay preserved in the mud for three centuries, before being recovered and displayed in its full glory.

From ABBA to Z: A Swedish Cultural Tour

Today, you’ll get an in-depth taste of life in Sweden’s capital. Cultural Discovery: Visit Abba: The Museum, an interactive experience dedicated to the iconic Swedish pop quartet and their global impact. Then tour the Skansen Open-Air Museum to see how people lived in Sweden before the Industrial Revolution. This afternoon, join an optional kayaking excursion among the scenic islands that comprise the Stockholm archipelago. From the water, enjoy views of the Old Town, City Hall and an old prison island.

Taxi transfer to kayak launch site. Shorter family-friendly trip is 6 km, for beginners who want to get the most out of their experience. The trip takes about 2 hours. The tour starts from Tantolunden and then takes us around the old prison island Långholmen, with views of the Old Town, City Hall and Norrmälarstrand. After that, Reimersholme is rounded with the former liquor and wool mill. Guests are provided with paddle, life jacket, spray deck, waterproof bag and map of the neighbouring area. Guests will be paddling in two-person kayaks, group to be accompanied by experienced kayak guide. No previous experience in kayaking is required, though you should be in good health to maneuver in and out of the kayaks.


DAY 5:

Inside Sweden’s food culture

Enjoy the morning following your own whims and desires, perhaps exploring the waterfront or stopping by the Nobel Museum to learn about the prestigious prize. In the afternoon, an included tour presents Swedish Food Culture. Walking with your guide you’ll stop at food markets, stalls and eateries to sample tasty Swedish delicacies and learn about the national cuisine. Your tastings include four to five different dishes based on the season — perhaps a fika coffee break with pastry, a sampling of artisanal smoked meats, local beer, or a cutting-edge New Nordic version of Swedish meatballs. The balance of the day is at leisure.
