Depart Dublin and transfer to Dún na Rí Forest Park
This morning after breakfast, you’ll bid farewell to Dublin and set off for the Dún na Rí Forest Park, situated just outside of Kingscourt. Enjoy a guided walk along the lush banks of the Cabra River, which spans the full length of the park area and is steeped in wartime legend. A highly-contested territory, it was controlled by the warrior people of Gailenga from the 3rd to 11th centuries, at which point the O’Reilly family came into power. They erected the breathtaking Castle Cabra on their land in 1607, which is precisely where you’ll be staying for the duration of your time in Kingscourt.
This afternoon, check into the Castle Cabra hotel. Take in the view as you approach one of the most well-known hotels in Ireland, an imposing, ivy-laden fortress flanked by a picturesque courtyards and set against the endlessly green landscapes for which this country is famous. Check in and enjoy a brief orientation walk before settling in. Dinner is included in the castle tonight.

The day is yours to explore Kingscourt as you wish. Perhaps you’ll head into town and grab a pint of Guiness at Gartlan’s Pub, an institution of this small community providing a comfortable atmosphere to meet and chat with local people. Alternatively, maybe you’ll venture to nearby Carrickmacross where you can enjoy a round of golf, relax at the local spa, or explore the trendy local bars and restaurants.

Upon arrival, if you purchased Vantage air, you’ll be transferred to your centrally located hotel from the airport. Remember also to take advantage of the hospitality desk during your stay, where you can plan activities; or use our complimentary Concierge service to do so in advance. A Welcome Dinner is included at the hotel tonight, and you’ll be joined by a traditional Scottish bagpiper.

The unforgettable city of Edinburgh unfolds before you as we ride and walk on a half-day city tour. Highlights of the Old Town include Edinburgh Castle, set high above the city on Castle Rock, and St. Margaret’s Chapel. Built around 1130, it is the oldest surviving building in town. Fast-forward to 18th-century as you explore the New Town, with its elegant neoclassical and Georgian architecture. Both districts are together listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
When Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip set sail to visit their far-flung dominion, they did it on board the Royal Yacht Britannia. You'll come aboard to inspect this elegant vessel, which often a hosted a retinue of more than 45 guests. It still features the furnishings and décor favored by the Queen when the ship was launched in 1953. The balance of your day is free.
