Exploring Prince Edward Island’s charms and literary roots
Prince Edward Island, Canada's tiniest and most charming province, is famous for its green fields, red earth, and white-sand beaches. During our excursion to historic Charlottetown, we’ll follow a trail through the same historic streets the delegates walked when they gathered in 1864 for the conference that led to the Confederation of Canada. Then, we’ll drive along the North Shore to Cavendish Bay, Prince Edward Island National Park, and the farmstead that inspired L.M. Montgomery’s beloved Anne of Green Gables. Enjoy free time strolling along the shores of the bay before we return to the ship for an exceptional dinner overlooking the sea.
Sightseeing at sea as we cruise to Tadoussac
Enjoy fantastic coastline views today as we cruise away from Prince Edward Island. Keep your eyes peeled for sights such as the quiet bayside town of Gaspé and Bonaventure Island, a former mecca for poets and painters and home of 293 different bird species.
Embark on a whale-watching sojourn in Tadoussac
Our destination today is Tadoussac, a peaceful village in Quebec with fewer than 900 inhabitants. Located at the confluence of the St. Lawrence and Saguenay Rivers, Tadoussac is well-known as one of the most exciting whale-watching sites in the world. Between the months of May and October, up to 13 different species of whale can be spotted making their way upriver from the Atlantic Ocean. Once a spot heavily trafficked by hunters, today this region is a protected environment for these extraordinary creatures. We’ll board a whale-watching cruise staffed by experts who will enlighten us on the behaviors and types of species found here, including impressive humpback and blue whales (the largest animals on the planet).
Savor a slice of France in Québec, then witness breathtaking Montmorency Falls
Hailed as the "most French city outside of France," Québec is a spectacle of history, architecture, and activity. After a light breakfast, we’ll go ashore and immerse ourselves in the charm and character of Old Québec (Vieux-Québec), the last remaining fortified city north of Mexico and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our tour today gives you an inside look at the history behind these walls; we’ll travel to the Plains of Abraham, once the site of an epic battle, as well as the public square, known as Place Royale.
Unforgettable Moment: Next, we’ll head outside the city to witness a natural marvel: the majestic Montmorency Falls. Channel your inner adventurer as you travel by cable car to the top of the falls; you’ll be rewarded with incredible views across the falls to the Ile d’Orleans. The rest of the afternoon is yours to further explore: perhaps you’ll stroll along the port or ride the Old Québec Funicular to the impressive Château Frontenac.
Lively Montréal takes center stage on a walking tour and scenic drive
The second-largest city in Canada, Montréal takes its name from Mount Royal, a hill in the center of the city with three distinct peaks. A UNESCO City of Design (one of only a few in the world), Montréal boasts over 50 national historic sites, including numerous churches, and a lively downtown arts and cultural scene. We’ll embark on a walking tour of Old Montréal with a visit to the Notre Dame Basilica, one of the crown jewels in Quebec's rich religious heritage. Then, a scenic drive takes us from Montréal’s downtown district to the top of Mont Royal for commanding views of the city and the St. Lawrence River.
Cruising the Canadian Seaboard toward Niagara Falls
Head to the ship deck and enjoy a day of scenic cruising as we sail along the Canadian Seaboard as we make our way to towards Niagara Falls.
Niagara’s splendor, and an afternoon at a family-owned winery
Today the ship arrives at Port Weller on the northern end of the Welland Canal. The original Welland Canal was opened in 1829 and was extended to reach Lake Erie in 1833. The current canal was completed in 1932 and boasts eight locks. As the M/V Victory II awaits its turn to transit the locks, we’ll disembark and drive along the rim for dramatic views of Horseshoe Falls before boarding the famous Hornblower “Voyage of the Falls”, where we'll cruise past the American and Bridal Veil Falls before heading into the misty spray of thunderous Horseshoe.
Back on shore, we’ll drive along scenic Niagara Parkway, spotting iconic Niagara sights such as the Floral Clock and the Whirlpool Rapids. Cultural Discovery and Unforgettable Moment: Our destination this afternoon is the lovely Chateau des Charmes, a state-of-the-art family-owned winery. We’ll tour these stunning grounds before enjoying a special regional wine tasting with lunch. Then, it's on to the charming 19th century town of Niagara-on-the-Lake to pursue the various shops, gardens, and galleries before rejoining the ship at Port Colbourne this evening.
Please note: Certain departures will also pay a short visit to Port Weller before continuing to Niagara Falls.
Rock-and-rolling through Cleveland
Nestled on the shores of Lake Erie, Cleveland is one of Ohio's largest cities. We'll board Cleveland’s famous trolleys for an entertaining tour of the city's highlights, the perfect way to get an in-depth look at the history and culture of this unique destination. Along the way, you'll stop at the stately Museum of Art, the Tiffany-designed Wade Chapel at Lakeview Cemetery, or the bustling West Side Market, where you’ll find hundreds of vendors selling everything from fresh seafood to beautiful flowers.
After returning to the ship for lunch, you’ll have chance to discover Cleveland’s iconic Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame, where you'll take a colorful tour through music history. Tonight, join us for some lively entertainment onboard following dinner.
