What to Expect
PACING: Your Great Lakes journey includes 2 Canadian provinces and 3 U.S. states in 11 days with 10 nights' accommodation aboard the 4-star plus M/V Victory I, plus one night's accommodations in either Toronto or Chicago (depending on departure date.)
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Most onshore sightseeing during your North American river and lake cruise will be on air-conditioned coaches with guides, along with a sightseeing boat tour at Niagara Falls and a horse drawn carriage ride on Mackinac Island. Walking is easy on flat, often paved surfaces.
CULTURAL FOCUS: Focus is on the people who appreciated the region's wild and beautiful nature, from the indigenous Ojibwe tribe to the engineers who built the locks that made shipping possible. You'll visit the Henry Ford Museum, centered on American history and Americana, learn about the frontier forts that played a role in wars between the British and the Americans, discover elite summer homes blending with the lush greenery of Mackinac Island, and more.
WHAT TO PACK: We suggest warm, casual clothing with good walking shoes. Weather is never predictable, so be sure to to be prepared for just about anything. You'll want to take along a sweater or jacket for cool evenings, even in the summer months. It's a good idea to dress in layers, which will allow you to adjust to changes in temperature with the changes in elevation. You may also wish to wear your own rain jacket for your voyage into the mist at Niagara Falls.
