Andean Magic Art Jewelry
Calle del Medio 110
Andean Magic Art Jewelry is a Cusco-based company that makes natural Andean ancestral alchemy jewelry – encompassing the healing power of metals. Founded by an Andean healer, the family-owned company offers free workshop tours (including transportation). Since starting in 1974, the company has hired less-fortunate Peruvians and trained them to become skilled artisans. Their jewelry is made with the highest quality materials, including 950 silver and 18k gold, and enhanced with all-natural semi-precious stones and sea shells. They offer an array of exquisite earrings, rings, bracelets, pendants, cufflinks, brooches, necklaces and sculptures, featuring pre-Inca (Inka), Inca and contemporary designs. Each item is carefully handcrafted by highly trained artisans, with the utmost attention to detail.
Chinchero Weavers Community
Travelers will get a firsthand look at the ancestral techniques of backstrap loom weaving during a special visit to Chinchero, an indigenous community of weavers located just outside the Sacred Valley. You’ll watch the entire process unfold before you, from sampling and cleaning different types of wool to dyeing the yarn with natural colors from the most diverse local ingredients and the art of using a loom; travelers will even be able to try their hand at spinning yarn for a true hands-on experience. After witnessing this impressive process, travelers will have time to shop from a colorful array of beautiful blankets, garments, rugs, and other community-made goods.
Like all Vantages feature shopping in South America, our visit to the Chinchero Weavers Community is a fair trade shopping opportunity; travelers can purchase textiles directly from the local weavers, paying a reasonable price for high-quality goods while supporting the community.
