Cultural Discovery: As we explore, we stop at the home where Nelson Mandela lived before he was arrested, and tour the Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum, which chronicles the student uprisings of 1976. After lunch at a local restaurant, we have the afternoon free back at the hotel. This evening, enjoy an orientation meeting and a Welcome Dinner.

Included Meals:

DAY 5:

Kruger National Park, South Africa

Unforgettable Moment: We’ll fall into the rhythm of Africa today with a full-day game drive, getting an early start so we'll see animals when they are at their most active after the nightly hunt. We’re likely to spot giraffe and zebra today, and your driver-guide is highly trained to help us find the “Big Five” – lions, elephants, leopards, water buffalos and rhinos. We venture through the Skukuza Triangle along the Sabie River, once home to the native Tsonga people, who lived here peacefully with the wildlife. We pause at a scenic location for a picnic lunch. And its 147 large mammal species outnumber any other park in Africa. We keep our eyes open for them all. We'll take a break for an included lunch in the park, and then head back out in search of more of Kruger’s magnificent wildlife. Dinner is at the hotel.

Throughout our Hwange stay, we have the privilege of exploring a carefully managed private concession, so we’ll encounter fewer vehicles and be less likely to frighten the animals away. A full-day game drive today introduces us to the sweeping beauty of this impressive National Park. Our 10-person safari vehicles let us witness the drama of the grassland up close, traversing mopane forests and clusters of Zambezi teak trees. We break for a picnic lunch in a breathtaking spot. This evening, we have dinner at the camp and are regaled around the campfire by a local storyteller with tales from the Shona and Ndebele tribes.

Today, just a few thousand remain, and we'll learn why during our visit.Unforgettable Moment: Upon arrival in Victoria Falls, we check in to the historic and gracious Victoria Falls Hotel, a grand dame from colonial days. Coined by David Livingstone when he first documented discovering the Falls — “scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight” — the “Flight of Angels” is the most popular of the helicopter flight options. Lifting off less than two miles from the Victoria Falls town center, the “Flight of Angels” is a 12-15-minute flight over the exquisite Victoria Falls. You will fly a complete circuit over the Falls in both directions, giving you the best views possible. A quick trip up river and back over the Zambezi National Park completes your flight.

Zambezi Spectacular Flight

  • When: Morning Tour
For a longer ride than the “Flight of Angels,” treat yourself to an unbelievable helicopter flight over Victoria Falls and the mighty Zambezi River. Enjoy a 25-minute scenic helicopter flight over Victoria Falls with spectacular views, flying lower than conventional, fixed-wing aircraft. The flight makes a complete circuit over the Falls in both directions, going up river and back over Zambezi National Park. After enjoying spectacular views of the Falls, you’ll fly over the Batoka Gorge of the Zambezi River and the surrounding area, spotting villages below, and pass over Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve, with magnificent wildlife viewing.

We always receive a warm welcome here from Zimbabwe’s next generation. Later, you might embark an optional “Trails of David Livingstone” cruise on the wild Zambezi River, an ideal backdrop for a talk about the history and culture of the region from a third-generation Zimbabwean. Cultural Discovery: This evening, we drive into Victoria Falls National Park for a true Africa experience – a three-course dinner in the bush beneath a blanket of stars. We enjoy African dancing and entertainment as we dine (weather permitting).

Included Meals:

Breakfast & Dinner
Optional Tour: Elephant, Cheetah, and Local Village Experience,

Elephant, Cheetah, and Local Village Experience

  • Approximate Cost: $295 USD per person
  • Approximate Time: 5 hours
  • Location: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
  • When:

It’s one thing to see an elephant, and it’s quite another to be thrillingly close to it – to see the spark of intelligence in its eyes, and run your hands over its rough skin. The same goes for a cheetah; seeing one in the distance is striking, but standing right next to one… well, that is breathtaking. This is the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that awaits you today at an elephant and cheetah interaction at Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust (a Vantage Cares partner).

During your visit, you’ll see firsthand the work that is being done at this organization that has spent the past 25 years dedicated to saving orphaned animals.  Your experience with elephants takes “up close and personal” to a new level: You’ll get a chance to feed these majestic creatures – and even pet them! – before watching them wallow gleefully in a nearby mud pit. You’ll also get a chance to meet Sylvester the Cheetah, who was saved by the trust at two days old and today is an “ambassador” for the valuable work being done to protect his precariously vulnerable species.

Yet your excursion isn’t over yet. Still glowing from this experience, we’ll venture to the nearby Mpisi village, where the chief will bring us on a tour. See some of the houses here, and learn about everyday village life from the people who live here. You’re afforded a fascinating glimpse of their world: watching daily chores, asking questions, and learning about the importance of animal husbandry to their way of life.

In just a few hours, you’ll have a lifetime of memories and quite a few remarkable photos to share with friends and family back home.  Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity.

Trails of David Livingstone - Zambezi River Cruise

Trails of David Livingstone - Zambezi River Cruise

  • Approximate Cost: $95 USD per person
  • Approximate Time: 2.5 hours
  • Location: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
  • When: Afternoon tour

Although the enormous torrents are what Victoria Falls is renowned for, the broad Zambezi River above the falls is a scenic wonder that should not be overlooked. Join us on this special cultural sunset cruise. You’ll board a sightseeing boat to explore among the multiple channels and islands that dot the wide river, while you travel back in time and learn about the epic story of David Livingstone. As the sun sets, your on-board guide will discuss the compelling tale of Livingstone’s great impact on African history, as well as his exploration and discovery of Victoria Falls. Your guide will also help point out birds and wildlife along the rivers edge, including egrets, hippos, and even elephants. This is an experience you won’t want to miss! Snacks and drinks are included.

DAY 13:

Chobe National Park, Botswana

After breakfast, we transfer to Botswana and the banks of the Chobe River. Here, we board a boat and cross the river into Namibia, where the Chobe Water Villas hug the river’s shores on the other side. Our rooms here have splendid views of the Chobe from waterside decks, so we can while away our time watching water buffalo or elephants in private comfort. During your stay, you can do as much or as little as you’d like – explore all day, enjoy the atmosphere of your villa, or perhaps a little of both.

This afternoon, we head out on a sunset cruise on the Chobe River. The river is a magnet for wildlife of all sorts, from hippos and crocodiles to elephants and baboons. You’ll want to bring your binoculars so you can witness incredible river scenes up close.

Included Meals:

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

DAY 14:

Chobe National Park, Botswana

In the morning, you’ll enjoy a game drive in Chobe National Park, seeking out the fascinating array of wildlife that roam this region. Later, you’ll embark on a Chobe River cruise that will be as relaxing as it is entertaining. We’ll float along this timeless waterway, keeping a keen eye open for the pods of hippo, herds of elephants, massive crocodiles, and red lechwe that are common in these parts. When you get hungry, settle in at the 26-seat restaurant for a traditional braai (barbeque) lunch, then relax in the suspended, shaded loungers on the upper deck and watch the scenery go by. Then, sip cocktails at sunset, watching as the landscape is bathed in a warm glow — the perfect end to a delightful day on the water. Dinner is back at the lodge.

Included Meals:

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

When you leave, take the memory card with you: A treasure trove of hundreds of spectacular wildlife photos you took yourself! Later, cross the river into Botswana for a full-day game drive in Chobe National Park. We gather tonight for a special Farewell Dinner on the terrace of our lodge.

Botswana / Nairobi, Kenya

Today, we say goodbye to southern Africa and begin our journey to the continent’s legendary eastern region. We’ll transfer to Kasane, crossing the border into Zambia to Livingstone Airport where we’ll catch our flight to Nairobi. Arriving in Kenya’s capital, we’ll transfer to our deluxe hotel and enjoy an evening at leisure as we look forward to our continued adventures.

Included Meals:

DAY 17:

Nairobi, Kenya

After breakfast, we visit the Daphne Shedrick Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Center, where these majestic creatures found in the wild are nursed to health. We meet some of the residents and learn about Ms. Shedrick’s efforts to protect these vulnerable symbols of Africa from poachers. Continue to the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden for lunch, followed by an afternoon visit to the Karen Blixen Museum. Here, we will see how the author of Out of Africa lived and admire some artifacts from her days in the bush. Later, return to the hotel for a full wildlife safari briefing and Welcome Dinner.

Included Meals:

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

DAY 18:

Amboseli National Park, Kenya

After breakfast, we begin our Kenyan safari with a drive through unspoiled savannas and past rocky thorn bush to Amboseli National Park. After lunch at the lodge, which is fashioned after Maasai Manyatta architecture, we set out on our first game drive. As we traverse the pristine landscapes, our trained driver guides will be on the lookout for signs of wildlife, perhaps spotting elephants, impalas, or giraffes. Dinner is at the lodge.

Included Meals:

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

DAY 19:

Amboseli National Park, Kenya

We’ll fall into the daily rhythm of Africa today. On most safari days, we rise early to catch sight of animals as they are coming off their nighttime hunt. Return to camp for lunch and rest time. Then we return into the bush to enjoy late-afternoon game drives. Specially outfitted, 6-seat safari vehicles ensure you have a window seat, and the pop-up roof makes for excellent viewing and photography. Your sharp-eyed driver guides help you spot even the most elusive wildlife. More than 50 large mammals and over 400 bird species call Amboseli home. Cultural Connection: Enjoy a visit to a Masai Village. You'll be welcomed by a traditional dance show and get a chance interact with the villagers as you tour their huts. You'll also experience fire-making and spear-throwing demonstrations, as well as a visit to the kindergarten here.

Included Meals:

During our visit, we will see how disabled Tanzanians create beautiful arts and crafts, and enjoy a traditional lunch with our hosts. En route, we pause in Namanga for border formalities.

It’s thanks to our small group size that we can connect with this village on such an intimate level. Afterward, have lunch at the lodge and take a short African wildlife safari game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, known for its fascinating tree-climbing lions. Later, enjoy a song and dance performance at the lodge's pool bar. Dinner is included this evening.

Cultural Discovery: We stop on the way to enjoy lunch at the renowned Gibbs Farm, a local institution that grows organic vegetables and coffee. After a delicious meal, we enjoy a tour of the coffee plantations.

Then, ascend to the rim of the crater as we transfer to our lodge. Unlike other tour companies that place groups outside of the park, Vantage has arranged for you to stay at the crater’s edge so you can spend less time driving and more time viewing the diverse array of African wildlife on safari. Relax at the lodge in the afternoon, taking in spectacular views of the crater, or join the Maasai Village Experience.

Included Meals:

In all, more than 30,000 animals call the crater home. Pause for a picnic and watch the wildlife action while you enjoy lunch. We return to the lodge in time for dinner.

Included Meals:

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

DAY 24:

Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

We enjoy a spellbinding full-day transfer into this wondrous wilderness today. Unforgettable Moment and Cultural Discovery: En route to our lodge, we stop to view African wildlife and visit Olduvai Gorge, the “Cradle of Humankind,” where Dr. Louis and Mary Leakey discovered hominid fossils more than 2.5 million years old. At other times he will ascend to 1,000 feet or more to see the enormity and wonderful panorama of the Serengeti. From time to time the pilot must put more heat into the balloon with the powerful whisper burners. In between these burns, there is silence apart from the natural sounds below. The Serengeti plains and woodlands are world famous for the variety and sheer number of its animal population. A Serengeti Balloon Safari however, is not merely a game viewing experience, but rather an opportunity for an adventure and unique perspective over outstanding quintessentially African landscapes. Tonight, after a delicious dinner in the open-air dining room, let the sounds of the African night lull you to sleep. We pause to enjoy a boxed lunch along the way.

Cultural Discovery: We stop to visit a local fishing village at Lake Victoria, the world’s largest tropical lake and the source of the White Nile.
