4 DAYS FROM $1,499
Kick off your Vantage Adventure with the perfect small-group safari experience! Right from your private veranda, watch as rhinos, elephants, zebras, and numerous other species come to drink at a water hole. Sweetwaters Tented Camp overlooks the central water hole in private Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which boasts one of the highest wildlife concentrations in Kenya. In addition to the wildlife right outside your front door, you’ll also go on three guided game drives to seek out the Big Five and other rare and endangered animals, plus you’ll visit the preserve’s chimp sanctuary. Your route to the camp takes you across the equator, where you’ll stop to witness an uncanny water demonstration of the Coriolis effect, which explains the opposite spinning direction of storms in the Northern versus the Southern hemispheres.
Your extension begins with an overnight flight to Nairobi, Kenya.
Arrival in Kenya
You'll arrive in Nairobi today, where a Vantage representative will meet you and transfer you to your deluxe hotel, located just minutes from the city center. You’ll have the rest of the day at leisure to relax and unwind.
Cross the equator and go on a game drive through Ol Pejeta
After breakfast at our hotel, we’ll drive to rural Nanyuki, Kenya, at the foothills of Mount Kenya. En route, we cross the equator, where we’ll stop to observe the Coriolis effect on water, which explains why storms spin one direction in the Northern Hemisphere and the opposite in the Southern. We’ll continue on to our lodge in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which has the highest wildlife concentration per acre in Kenya.
After you’ve settled in to your deluxe safari tent, we’ll enjoy lunch at Rhino Room, which has remarkable water hole views through its floor-to-ceiling windows. This afternoon, we’ll go on the first of our three guided game drives in the preserve. We’ll also stop at the conservancy's sanctuary for orphaned chimps. This is the only facility of its kind in Kenya, and you’ll be able to observe and learn about these charismatic primates.
Morning and afternoon game drives for the Big Five
The beauty of Sweetwaters for wildlife viewing is that your private veranda looks right over one of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy's central water holes, so you're practically guaranteed sightings at almost any time.
In addition, we'll go on morning and afternoon game drives today to seek out animals farther afield. Ol Pejeta is a large private reserve, one of just four in Kenya. During our game drives, we’re likely to see some of the Big Five. The conservancy is the largest sanctuary for the endangered black rhino in east Africa, and white rhinos are sheltered here too.
Transfer to Nairobi and join base program
After breakfast, we’ll drive to Nairobi, arriving midday. Upon arrival, you’ll join your group for the base program. Your afternoon and evening are at leisure.
