Grounded in ancient tradition, most of Morocco’s carpets are woven on old broad looms in Berber villages. Some of the finer rugs with Arab designs can be found in Fez. Moroccan rugs or kilims are particularly prized for their rich yarns and lustrous colors created from henna, indigo, saffron, and other natural dyes. A dazzling array of designs is available, though many are characterized by their geometric patterns, and date as far back as the Merinid era.
