Later this evening, another boat ride — via fun gondola adventure — awaits. Be serenaded on Venice’s most historic and charming mode of transportation before an included Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant, where you’ll break bread with the other families on your trip.
Make your mark with a mask-making lesson
Exciting hands-on activities await today! Family Feature and Cultural Discovery: Feathers, glitter, and sequins are yours to play with when your group visits a traditional mask-making workshop. Chase the pigeons and count the lions and horses adorning the impressive exterior before heading inside for a tour with your small group. You’ll also visit Doge’s Palace, whose beautiful exterior belies some dark secrets inside. Learn about the torture chamber, and see the small cells where prisoners were kept — including one famous convict, Giacomo Casanova, who was imprisoned here in 1755 for a five-year sentence.
Tonight’s dinner is on your own.
Artistic treasures await in Tuscany

Besides phenomenal cuisine and architectural splendors, Italy is rife with artistic treasures and you’ll see many of them today during a walking guided tour of Tuscany’s capital.

More discoveries from Italy’s revered painters, sculptors and “Renaissance men” (also including da Vinci, Botticelli, and Raphael) are featured during a scavenger hunt at the Uffizi Gallery. The space — including its marvelous courtyard — is a work of art itself, constructed in the late 16th century, and is filled to the brim with unforgettable sculptures and paintings.
Your dinner is included at your hotel this evening.
Leaning toward Pisa
Get ready to take some of your best selfies today in Pisa. Depart this morning via coach for a guided tour of the world’s most famous leaning tower. There’s plenty of options for lunch on your own today; perhaps you’ll try one of many excellent and affordable pizzas or pastas.
Family Feature: This evening holds more fun food in store, thanks to a special pizza-making session. Learn how to roll the dough for a perfect crust, add just the right amount of sauce, and personalize your toppings.
Heed the call of the Colosseum in Rome
A fun day awaits today when you travel bound for Rome via high-speed rail. Watch as the tall, thin trees and rolling green vistas of the Umbria and Lazio regions pass before your eyes and children thrill to these new and fascinating sights.
You’ll arrive just in time for lunch at a local restaurant, then your explorations of the Eternal City begin with a guided visit to the Colosseum. While this towering amphitheater punctuates the skyline — and it’s easy to imagine being a spectator here, surrounded by up to 80,000 cheering fans — sometimes the best views are from the bottom. Prepare to be regaled with the thrill of gladiators’ armor shining in the sun, tales of wild beasts smashing their hooves into the dirt, racing for each other, and the seventh wonder of the modern world soaring around you.
En route to your centrally located deluxe hotel, see more of Rome’s city center, a collective UNESCO World Heritage Site that also includes Palatine Hill and Circus Maximus.
American gladiators, suit up!
All roads may lead to Rome . . . but then there are a few that also lead away from it that are important, too! This morning you’ll travel via Appian Way, a storied 350-mile trek built in 312 BC by Appius Claudius Caecus. Thankfully, it’s been repaved more than a few times and you’ll traverse in deluxe comfort on this historical route with commentary, bound for glory.
Family Feature and Cultural Discovery: This is a lesson you won’t soon forget — your own gladiator school! Children will excite to learn how the ancient battlers fought with hands-on experiences that include swords, shields, helmets, fancy footwork, and more. (Appropriate for ages 7 and older.)
On the way back to Rome, you’ll be treated to lunch, then enjoy an afternoon at leisure. Perhaps you’ll explore the Bioparco zoo, which isn’t far from your hotel. Or, rest up for an evening that includes a Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant, followed by a Rome by Night tour. Feel the enchantment of Italy’s capital in the evening, when the intimate streets, babbling fountains and piazzas twinkle with the glow of twilight.
Water and ice
Make the most of your last day today with a fun walking tour through Piazza Navona. The ancient stadium of the Emperor Domitian is one of the most iconic sites in Italy, and the Trevi Fountain a historical marvel that tells just one of the country’s many fascinating stories. Not only did this monument serve as a beautification effort, it was functional, too, since Roman citizens had to fetch their water. Today it seems more ornamental than utilitarian and you can participate in the legend that says throwing a coin from the right hand over the left shoulder means you will return to Rome. The Pantheon also awaits, and you can admire its dome; fun fact: the dome is as high as it is wide, about 142 feet.
Family Feature and Cultural Discovery: You’re sure not to forget your next fun activity, a delicious gelato-making class! You’ll even enjoy indulging in dessert before your meal, since an independent lunch follows next.
Cultural Discovery: This evening, depart for Vatican City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A city-state surrounded by Rome, this headquarters of the Catholic Church is a treasure trove of architecture and art. You’ll see some — like Michelangelo’s Pieta — and enjoy a guided visit to St. Peter’s Basilica. Your Vantage-exclusive after-hours tour of the Vatican Museums includes views of the Sistine Chapel without the crowds!
Today, you’ll return home to the U.S.A., with a convenient transfer if you purchased your airfare through Vantage. Or, extend your discoveries in Rome with two more convenient nights at your hotel.
