Make more intimate discoveries in groups of just 24 travelers or less!
Iceland, the “Land of Fire and Ice,” has caught fire in the imaginations of travelers, who are discovering the bewitching wilderness and seascapes of an island-nation that is part of Europe, yet closer to the U.S. than continental Europe. More than half the population of the country resides in its capital city, Reykjavik, which you’ll explore on two guided tours, a visit to the famous Blue Lagoon, and time on your own. But the rest of the island remains spectacularly unspoiled, with green pastures where horses roam, magnificent fjords hiding tiny fishing villages on their banks, and glaciers beckoning explorers into their shocking blue ice caves. These are landscapes that have inspired epic literature and Viking lore — and we will explore it all on an epic adventure that reveals Iceland’s wild coastline from north to south. And because we’ll be traveling in a small group, we’ll enjoy close-up discoveries and personalized attention from a Vantage Adventure Director and knowledgeable local guide, who will share their stories and insights with us. We’ll also learn about local history and the environment on museum visits, and complement these discoveries with opportunities to walk or hike every day. Without a doubt, the best way to tour Iceland is with Vantage, on a comprehensive itinerary that lets you “see it all” — at the best value in Deluxe travel!

DAY 3:

Pay attention to the scenery as we travel north to Borgarfjörður, a region rich in legends and surrounded by rolling hills, mountains, and glaciers. This is the setting of the saga of the warrior-poet Egil — one of the greatest works of Icelandic medieval literature. We’ll visit Reykholt, the home of the epic’s putative author, 13th-century historian Snorri Sturluson. After visiting the Deildartunguhver hot springs and the crystal blue Hraunfossar waterfall, you may become an inspired poet yourself! This afternoon’s optional tour shouldn't be missed — it’s your chance to see the mythic Langjökull glacier and walk through the ice cave! Relax at the hotel this evening with a complimentary Welcome Drink over dinner.

Included Meals:

Breakfast & Dinner
Optional Tour: Ice Tunnel in Langjökull

Ice Tunnel in Langjökull

Please note: Participation only guaranteed in case of pre-reservation. Onsite space is by availability only.
Optional tours cancelled by passengers within 14 days of the excursion are non-refundable.

DAY 4:

It’s hard to miss the Snæfellsjökull volcano looming over the Snæfellsnes peninsula, and today we’ll visit the “entry point” written about by Jules Verne in his novel, Journey to the Center of the Earth. Next, we tour the tiny fishing hamlet of Arnarstapi, a remote area of immense scenic splendor. We’ll gain a greater appreciation for its beauty on a short hike down to a beach with golden sands. You’ll have time for lunch on your own in the Hellnar Valley before we head back to the hotel in Borgarfjörður.

Included Meals:

Breakfast & Dinner

DAY 5:

You’ll appreciate today’s scenic drive — from Húsafell in the north through Skagafjörður, vast stretches of open fields where Icelandic horses play and animals graze freely. You'll break for lunch in the small fishing community of Skagaströnd before arriving at our hotel this afternoon. The rest of your day is at leisure.

Included Meals:

Breakfast & Dinner

DAY 6:

Make sure your camera batteries are charged for today’s adventure excursion as we arrive in Hauganes, a small fishing town in North Iceland. We’ll board a scenic whale watching tour on the calm surrounding fjord, complete with an opportunity to try your hand at sea angling (and possibly catch some dinner!) Back on land, you’ll have some time to experience lively Akureyri on a short walking tour before we head back to Siglufjörður this afternoon. Cultural Discovery: Later, enjoy a visit to the award-winning Herring Era Museum. Located on the town’s vibrant harborfront, the museum’s multiple exhibits illustrate the fascinating history of this important industry. Dinner is at the hotel this evening.

Included Meals:

Breakfast & Dinner

DAY 7:

Lake Mývtan

Another remarkable day of exploration awaits us, starting with this morning’s transfer to Akureyri through the Héðinsfjörður Tunnel, the villages of Ólafsfjörður and Dalvík, and the countryside. In picturesque Akureyri, we’ll find some of Iceland’s finest preserved timber buildings, beautifully restored to their original glory.

Next, we ride to Lake Mývtan to explore the otherworldly environs of this national parkland. Along the way, we'll stop to marvel at Godafoss, meaning “waterfall of the gods” in local lore, view the Hverfjall crater, watch mud pots bubble at Namaskard, and make sense of bizarre lava formations at Dimmuborgir and the flat volcano system at Krafla. Our last stop is the incredible “Glacial River Canyon,” another of Iceland’s natural wonders, where a short walk will lead us to jaw-dropping Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall and Iceland’s “Niagara.”

Included Meals:

Breakfast & Dinner

DAY 8:

Akureyri / Reykjavík / Thingvellir National Park / Hella

Today we transfer back to Akureyri for our flight to Reykjavik. On arrival in Iceland’s capital city, we’ll be taken to the can’t-miss Thingvellir National Park, an area of intense rugged beauty. The Parliament first convened at this ancient, UNESCO-protected site. Cultural Discovery: This afternoon finds us at a lovely local horse farm in Friõheimar, where we’ll tour the greenhouse and grounds, enjoy a light lunch, and witness these regal creatures in action during a horse show. From here, even more natural marvels await, such as the powerful Gullfoss waterfall and the Great Geysir, the erupting hot spring that gave geysers their English name.

Included Meals:

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

DAY 9:

Iceland’s South Shore / Hella

Today, we travel to Iceland’s South Shore, the land of Njál’s Saga, which boasts an intriguing mix of scenery — from flat plains stretching beyond sight to the sheer drop-off sea cliffs of Dyrólaey and Reynishverfi and the spectacular waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Weather permitting, we’ll experience views of two of Iceland’s active volcanoes and the beautiful village of Vík. Cultural Discovery: Learn more about the volcanic and geologic forces that created Iceland. We return to our hotel in Hella for dinner.

Included Meals:

Breakfast & Dinner

Our Iceland “saga” continues on a ride through the storied countryside leading to Reykjavik, the last stop on our adventure. On arrival, we’ll savor lunch at a local restaurant, then embark on a city tour of this capital city, one of the safest and cleanest in the world! This afternoon, pursue your own interests in Reykjavik before we regroup for dinner at a local restaurant.

Included Meals:

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
