Whether you're dining on gourmet fare in your hotel's restaurant; a home-hosted meal of local items; or a buffet overflowing with fresh produce, cheeses, and international favorites, mealtime is an experience to be savored. Breakfasts are all served buffet style with international menu options. Included lunches and dinners vary between set menu gourmet meals and buffet offerings. Special meals are also featured during your journey, including a Welcome and Farewell Dinner, a home-hosted meal of Curanto in Puerto Varas, and fresh seafood from a cocineria in Puerto Montt.

Meals consist of many meat dishes. Although many meals are included in your journey, you have opportunities to go out on your own and sample the cuisine in local restaurants. Your Adventure Leader can recommend restaurants and menu options that you may want to try. All meals give you a varied, authentic experience that reflects the true South America.

Healthy Choices at Every Meal
Along with the Latin American and international fare, you'll also find some choices for the health-conscious. We are happy to accommodate special dietary requests, such as vegetarian, kosher, gluten-free, lactose-intolerant, and allergy-specific concerns, provided your requests are received at the time of booking. Please be aware that in South America, you will not always find the variety of special diet options that you would in the US.

Wherever you travel, one of the best ways to connect with local people is to share a meal, snack, or coffee — with a side of conversation. Whether you're having tea in a family home, sharing a farmhouse lunch, or attending a community-hosted meal, there's nothing more personal — and fun! — than bonding over food, getting to know each other, and exchanging ideas about life in your respective countries. On this itinerary, you'll enjoy a home-hosted lunch during a visit to Chiloé Island, where you'll experience an authentic Curanto lunch — a traditional shellfish and potato-based stew cooked over hot stones.
