The wine in this region – and particularly on New Zealand’s South Island – is among its many splendors. The delightful vintages are reason enough to visit, but the breathtaking beauty of the wine regions add an entire other dimension to your experience.
Queenstown: We’ll visit Gibbston's Winery today, getting an opportunity to immerse ourselves in wine culture while also sampling some wines here. While on this excursion, we’ll also get a chance to admire the beauty here, as we pass vast fields of vineyards in the Central Otago wine region amidst dramatic slopes.
Natural splendor abounds in Australia and New Zealand. From the rugged expanses of Australia’s Red Center and its kaleidoscopic Great Barrier Reef to the breathtaking silhouette of Mount Cook and the Edenic beauty of Milford Sound, this region is teeming with postcard-perfect vistas and is home to a culture that embraces exploration.
Mount Cook: You’ll set off on a walking tour of Mount Cook National Park, home to the highest mountain in New Zealand. We’ll walk to Kea Point for uninterrupted views of the spectacular slopes of the distinctive peak and neighboring Mount Sefton.
Cairns: Embark on a walk through the rainforest in Mossman Gorge, learning about how some of the plants are used by the local indigenous people. Here in a peaceful natural setting, we’ll gain some insights about the Kuku Yanlanji people that live here.
We’ll also enjoy a 90-minute cruise to the Outer Great Barrier Reef, where we’ll have a chance to swim, snorkel, or simply watch the colorful fish and coral from the underwater viewing platform.
Milford Sound: We set out on a full-day excursion to magnificent Milford Sound, the Southern Hemisphere’s longest fjord and truly one of its most beautiful settings. A cruise will take you past rocky peaks and silvery waterfalls as you glide along the shimmering waters.
Cairns: The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest living structure, made up of nearly 2,900 individual reefs and stretching more than 1,600 miles. We’ll set off on a 90-minute cruise to the Outer Great Barrier Reef (a lesser-visited section), where we’ll have a chance to swim, snorkel, or simply watch the colorful fish and coral from the underwater viewing platform.
Ayers Rock: On an optional extension, you can experience Ayers Rock (also known as Uluru to the locals). Marvel at the world's largest monolith while sipping champagne at sunset as the rock’s red sandstone takes on ever-changing hues.
